<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The use of biodiesel has generated a diversification of the energy matrix, which has led to a lower dependence on fossil fuels and a concomitant reduction of the adverse effects on the environment generated by their use. Currently, biodiesel is mainly produced by transesterification with short-chain alcohols of oils from different sources, in particular from oil crops, such as soybean and canola. Since the use of crops for the generation of fuels competes with their use as food, it seems appropriate to explore new oil sources for the production of biodiesel, such as the intracellular triglycerides accumulated by oleaginous yeasts. In this case, to achieve a competitive process, yeast production should be carried out using low-cost fermentable substrates such as industrial wastes or by-products. In this work we optimized the production of intracellular lipids by a previously selected oleaginous yeast strain in a fed-batch culture in presence of crude glycerol as a source of carbon and energy. In the optimized conditions an important improvement of lipid concentration was achieved, obtaining 12.2 g L−1 of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) and 26.6 g L−1 of dry biomass in 360 h of culture.]]></dcterms:abstract>

We present the SAB’s response to a request from the OPCW Director-General in 2014 for information on the best practices for preventing and treating the health effects from acute, prolonged, and repeated organophosphorus nerve agent (NA) exposure. The report summarises pre- and post-exposure treatments, and developments in decontaminants and adsorbing materials, that at the time of the advice, were available for NAs. The updated information provided could assist medics and emergency responders unfamiliar with treatment and decontamination options related to exposure to NAs. The SAB recommended that developments in research on medical countermeasures and decontaminants for NAs should be monitored by the OPCW, and used in assistance and protection training courses and workshops organised through its capacity building programmes.]]></dcterms:abstract>

In this, the first of several papers describing the SAB's work on this topic, we describe advice given in response to questions from the OPCW Director-General in 2013 and 2014 on the status of available medical countermeasures and treatments to organophosphorus nerve agents. This paper provides the evidence base for this advice which recommended to the OPCW pretreatments, emergency care, and long-term treatments that were available at the time of the request for this class of chemical warfare agent (CWA). It includes a bibliography of over 140 scientific references, which can be used as a platform for watching future medical countermeasure developments. The information provided in this paper should serve as a valuable reference for medical professionals and emergency responders who may have no knowledge of the symptoms and treatment options of exposure to nerve agents.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[OBJECTIVES: Lead (Pb) and manganese (Mn) are confirmed neurotoxins but it is unclear to what extent low-level exposure produces a unique behavioral signature. The objective of this study was to investigate latent cognitive profiles among children (6-8 years) from Montevideo, Uruguay co-exposed to these metals. METHOD: Among 345 children, blood Pb and hair Mn were measured using atomic absorption spectroscopy and ICP-MS, respectively. Sixteen measures, reflecting multiple domains of cognitive functioning were gathered: (1) three tests from Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB): Intra-Extra Dimensional Shift (IED), Spatial Span (SSP) and Stockings of Cambridge (SOC), (2) ten tasks from Woodcock-Muñoz Achievement Battery, Revised (WM): Visual-Motor Integration, Verbal Comprehension (Vocabulary, Synonyms, Antonyms, Analogies), Visual-Auditory Comprehension, Concept Formation, Visual Spatial Thinking, Number Inversion and Spatial Relations, (3) Bender Gestalt task, and (4) Weschler block design task. Scores were modeled using latent profile analysis (LPA). Association between blood Pb and hair Mn on performance profiles was assessed using ordinal regression, controlling for confounders. An interaction between Pb and Mn was tested. RESULTS: Mean ± SD of blood Pb was 4.1 ± 2.1 μg/dL and 35% of children had blood Pb ≥ 5 μg/dL. Median [5%, 95%] hair Mn level was 0.8 [0.3, 4.1] ppb. Three latent cognitive performance profiles were identified: high (n = 46, 13%), average (n = 209, 61%) and low (n = 90, 26%). Each one-unit increase in blood Pb was associated with a 28% greater likelihood of belonging to a poorer-performing profile. The association was non-linear, with the effect of Pb on profile membership strongest at lower levels of exposure. There was no meaningful interaction between Pb and Mn. CONCLUSIONS: A behavioral signature for low-level Pb & Mn exposure was not identified, but the likelihood of membership in low-performing profile was higher at lowest levels of blood Pb. There was no effect measure modification between Pb and Mn. Future research should address how complex environments created by chemical exposures and the social context relate to cognitive performance in young children]]></dcterms:abstract>

Serum ferritin (SF), an indicator of iron stores, was measured in fasting samples. Trained nutritionists completed two non-consecutive 24-h dietary recalls with both child and caregiver present. Measures of iron, zinc, calcium and fiber intake, and the consumption of grains, root vegetables, milk, and foods rich in heme iron (white and read meats) and non-heme iron (legumes, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, dried fruit) were derived. Multivariable ordinary least squares (OLS) and ordinal regressions were used to examine associations among tertiles of water Cd, SF, diet, and U-Cd. OLS models were further stratified by sex. Results In covariate-adjusted models, SF was not related to ln-U-Cd. Children in highest tertile of iron and zinc intake had lower ln-U-Cd: (−0.23 [−0.42, −0.03]) and (−0.25 [−0.44, −0.05]), respectively, compared to the reference group. Children consuming higher amounts of foods rich in heme iron had slightly lower ln-U-Cd (−0.17 [−0.36, 0.03]). High grain consumption was related to higher ln-U-Cd (0.25 [0.06, 0.45]). Conclusions Diets rich in grains were related to higher urinary Cd levels among children living in the context of low Cd pollution. Higher intake of iron and zinc was related to lower Cd levels. Given that urinary Cd is mainly a marker of long-term exposure, these findings should be further corroborated.]]></dcterms:abstract>

TR can react with ·OH or O2 to produce oxygenated species, for many of which there is no experimental information available. For those species the experimental HFs of which are known, we obtained a good correlation between experimental and theoretical values at the G4 (r2 = 0.999) and M06/cc-pVQZ (r2 = 0.997) levels, thus showing the goodness of the methods used. Experimentally unknown HFs of other radicals (benzyloxyl, spiro [1,2-dioxetane benzyl], hydroxyphenyl and benzylperoxyl) and closed-shell species (salicylic alcohol, benzo[b]oxetane and p-hydroxy cyclohexa-2,5-dienone) were later determined using those methods.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The aim of the present research was to explore consumers' conceptualization of feeling good in relation to food and beverages from a cross-cultural perspective. Participants from 14 countries across 5 continents and covering 10 languages (N = 8325) responded to an online survey including word association and free listing tasks related to feeling good in the context of food and beverages. Results were analyzed using inductive coding: a list of main codes was generated in English for each of the tasks, after which native speakers for each language coded the responses. Codes were grouped into categories reflecting common themes from which eight dimensions were identified. Results showed that in the context of foods and beverages, feeling good was mainly associated with specific foods and sensory and hedonic properties. Across the 14 countries, ‘Sweet and fat food’, ‘Fruit and vegetables’, and ‘Protein food’ were the three food categories most associated with feeling good. Emotional aspects of food consumption (‘Taste good’ and emotions) were also relevant. Health and nutrition-related aspects were more relevant for consumers when they were asked to think about how foods and beverages would make them feel good in the future. In other words, food-related feeling good seems to be mainly driven by sensory pleasure at present, but it is also related to nutrition and health in the future. Differences in the strength of the associations between feeling good and the identified categories were found between countries, in line with the existence of cultural differences in food habits, as well as in the importance people attach to the characteristics of foods and beverages. Results from the present work provide insights on the impact of eating and drinking on feeling good in terms of emotional, physical and social aspects, and increase knowledge about the way food and drink can contribute to general well-being.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) assay is an established procedure used to measure antioxidant content. Recently, the CUPRAC assay was adapted for use in post column derivatisation coupled with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-PCD). In prior works reported in the literature, CUPRAC HPLC-PCD assays used large post column mixing coils leading to a deterioration in the observed separation efficiency. In this work we used the CUPRAC PCD assay with reaction flow (RF) chromatography. No reaction loop was required, thus preserving the efficiency of the separation. We subsequently compared the performance of the CUPRAC assay to that of an antioxidant assay that we have previously converted to RF chromatography, namely the ferric reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) assay, both in RF mode. The relative response factor with respect to trolox was measured for both RF assays via the separation of a standard mixture of 16 compounds. Sample analysis of coffee and green tea via both RF assays was used to compare their ability to screen for bioactive candidates in complex natural products. In general, the CUPRAC assay is recommended as the RF PCD methodology of choice as it provided a higher level of performance compared to the FRAP assay, demonstrating less baseline noise interference, greater sensitivity, wider linear dynamic range and better assay precision.]]></dcterms:abstract>

This compound with a triterpenoid structure, now confirmed by this study, played an important role in the determination of the structure of lanosterol. The molecules pack in linear O—H⋯O hydrogen-bonded chains along the short axis (b), while parallel chains display weak van der Waals interactions that explain the needle-shaped crystal morphology. The structure exhibits disorder of the flexible methylheptane chain at one end of the main molecule with a small void around it. Crystals of the compounds were resistant to data collection for decades with the available cameras and Mo Kα radiation single-crystal diffractometer in our laboratory until a new instrument with Cu Kα radiation operating at 100 K allowed the structure to be solved and refined.]]></dcterms:abstract>

The hybrid linear trap/triple quadrupole (LC-QTRAP) instrument was used in precursor ion scan (PIS), enhanced product ion scan (EPI), and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode. The parent ions from ions at m/z 120 or 138 amus, characteristic of all the toxic PAs and PANOs in the sample were first scanned by PIS. Then, the presence of each contaminant at specific retention times through its MS2 spectrum was confirmed by EPI. Finally, they were quantified in the MRM mode. The method was validated: recoveries 86–111%, relative standard deviation (RSD) <20%, at 20 and 40 μg/kg, except retrorsine, which showed a RSD of 30% at 20 μg/kg. Honey samples were analyzed and five of them showed levels of 40 μg/kg for the sum (PAs + PANOs). <dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Ten structurally related homoleptic complexes, including three new compounds, were synthesized: five [VIVO(L-H)2] and five [VVO(OCH3)(L-H)2] compounds, where L–H = L1-H–L5-H are monodeprotonated L1–L5 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives. The compounds were characterized in the solid state and in solution. All complexes show inhibitory activity against Trypanosoma cruzi and Leishmania infantum, most within the 0.2–5 μM range, T. cruzi being more sensitive to the compounds than L. infantum. The compounds show high selectivities towards the parasite, evaluated using VERO cells as a mammalian cell model, as well as higher activity against T. cruzi than the reference antitrypanosomal drug nifurtimox. The antitrypanosomal activity depends on the nature of the substituents on the 8-hydroxyquinoline moiety, [VIVO(L1-H)2] (L1 = 5,7-dichloroquinolin-8-ol), with IC50 = 0.21 μM, being the most active and selective compound of the series against T. cruzi, and one of the most active against L. infantum (IC50 = 2.5 μM). A trypanocide effect of [VIVO(L1-H)2] was observed when incubating parasites with 10× the IC50 value and a late apoptotic/necrotic cell death mechanism is suggested. A preferred association with the soluble protein fraction of cells is also observed (49.4% of total vanadium association). [VIVO(L1-H)2] is shown to affect not only the infection potentiality of cell-derived trypomastigotes but also the proliferation of intracellular amastigotes, the two parasite stages more relevant in the mammalian host after infection. By measuring circular dichroism spectra of solutions containing either human serum apo-transferrin (apo-HTF) or bovine serum albumin (BSA) upon adding the compounds, it is shown that both the free ligands and the VIV- and VV-complexes bind to these proteins. From data determined from fluorescence quenching measurements with BSA, the determined Stern–Volmer constants are typically slightly higher for the ligand precursors than for the corresponding [VIVO(L1-H)2] compounds, the calculated conditional binding constants at pH = 7.4 being ca. 105–106. The fluorescence competition measurements with DNA bound to ethidium bromide typically yield relatively small decreases in fluorescence, VIV- and VV-complexes with L1 showing higher quenching.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Nowadays, fertilization and pest control are carried out using chemical compounds that contaminate soil and deteriorate human health. Plant growth promoting bacteria endophytes (PGPBEs), are a well-studied group of bacteria that offers benefits to the host plant, such as phytostimulation, biofertilization, and protection against other microorganisms. The study of Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus–which belongs to PGPBEs-aids the development of alternative strategies of an integrated approach for crop management practices. Ralstonia solanacearum is responsible for bacterial wilt disease. This phytopathogen is of great interest worldwide due to the enormous economic losses it causes. In this study the action of G. diazotrophicus as a growth promoting bacterium in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings is analyzed, evaluating the antagonistic mechanisms of this beneficial endophytic bacterium during biotic stress produced by R. solanacearum. Effective colonization of G. diazotrophicus was determined through bacterial counting assays, evaluation of anatomical and growth parameters, and pigments quantification. Biocontrol assays were carried out with Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum GMI1000 model strain and R. solanacearum A21 a recently isolated strain. Inoculation of A. thaliana (Col 0) with G. diazotrophicus Pal 5 triggers a set of biochemical and structural changes in roots, stems, and leaves of seedlings. Discrete callose deposits as papillae were observed at specific sites of root hairs, trichomes, and leaf tissue. Upon R. pseudosolanacearum GMI1000 infection, endophyte-treated plants demonstrated being induced for defense through an augmented callose deposition at root hairs and leaves compared with the non-endophyte-treated controls. The endophytic bacterium appears to be able to prime callose response. Roots and stems cross sections showed that integrity of all tissues was preserved in endophyte-treated plants infected with R. solanacearum A21. The mechanisms of resistance elicited by the plant after inoculation with the endophyte would be greater lignification and sclerosis in tissues and reinforcement of the cell wall through the deposition of callose. As a consequence of this priming in plant defense response, viable phytopathogenic bacteria counting were considerably fewer in endophyte-inoculated plants than in not-inoculated controls. Our results indicate that G. diazotrophicus colonizes A. thaliana plants performing a protective role against the phytopathogenic bacterium R. solanacearum promoting]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Melanoidins, the brown-colored compounds formed through the Maillard reaction, are responsible for color development in dulce de leche (DL), a popular confectionary dairy product in the Río de la Plata region, particularly in Uruguay and Argentina. Color is a critical quality parameter that strongly influences consumer preference. This work aimed to develop a method to perform preliminary structural characterization of the chromophores produced by the Maillard reaction. Melanoidins are present in a water-insoluble fraction, linked to a protein backbone, conforming melanoproteins of high molecular weight. The insoluble melanoprotein fraction (10% total solids) was isolated, and the chromophores released by proteolysis and isolated by gel-permeation chromatography. The analysis of the products revealed that they present a high degree of molecular weight (MW) polydispersity, in a range of 300 to 2000 Da, where the compounds of higher molecular weight contributed the most to the color of the product. The isolated fractions were further analyzed by RP-HPLC using a diode array detector (DAD) detector. These results, together with H-NMR data, suggested that the chromophores isolated belonged to a relatively simple mixture of aromatic products with higher hydrophobic character relative to other products of the melanoprotein digestion.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The larval stage of the cestode Echinococcus granulosus causes cystic echinococcosis in humans and livestock. This larva is protected by the millimeter-thick, mucin-based laminated layer (LL), from which materials have to be shed to allow parasite growth. We previously reported that dendritic cells (DCs) respond to microscopic pieces of the mucin gel of the LL (pLL) with unconventional maturation phenotypes, in the absence or presence of Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists, including lipopolysaccharide (LPS). We also reported that the presence of pLL inhibited the activating phosphorylation of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) effector Akt induced by granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor or interleukin-4. We now show that the inhibitory effect of pLL extends to LPS as a PI3K activator, and results in diminished phosphorylation of GSK3 downstream from Akt. Functionally, the inhibition of Akt and GSK3 phosphorylation are linked to the blunted upregulation of CD40, a major feature of the unconventional maturation phenotype. Paradoxically, all aspects of unconventional maturation induced by pLL depend on PI3K class I. Additional components of the phagocytic machinery are needed, but phagocytosis of pLL particles is not required. These observations hint at a DC response mechanism related to receptor-independent mechanisms proposed for certain crystalline and synthetic polymer-based particles; this would fit the previously reported lack of detection of molecular-level motifs necessary of the effects of pLL on DCs. Finally, we report that DCs exposed to pLL are able to condition DCs not exposed to the material so that these cannot upregulate CD40 in full in response to LPS.]]></dcterms:abstract>

Consequently, ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is viewed as a simple procedure well suited for the extraction and subsequent determination of trace elements in food. Herein, we use different techniques to characterize several processes involved in probe- and bath-based UAE, apply them to the determination of trace metals (Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in globe artichoke leaves and soybean seeds, and closely monitor the extraction rates of selected analytes. The developed UAE-based method is found to comply with the criteria of Green Chemistry and is concluded to be a reliable, simple, and cheap alternative to standard food analysis techniques.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The heteroatom doping of graphene is a useful method to amplify the outstanding properties of graphene. However, it is difficult to control the disposition of the dopants. By means of first-principles calculations, we show that the substrate-induced doping of epitaxial graphene leads to the formation of silicon doped graphene with a precise location of the dopants in the valley regions between crests. According to our results, in the valleys silicon dopants greatly prefer to replace the carbon atoms of the buffer layer which are bonded to the substrate by a large amount of energy. This selective doping suggests that a siligraphene layer in the g-SiC3 form would be an excellent model for a buffer layer grown on nanometer-sized areas of SiC, thus paving the way to the synthesis of a new two-dimensional material. We predict a stable antiferromagnetical (AF) ordering that behaves electronically as a semiconductor, degenerated with the highest ferromagnetic configuration of the system. A net magnetic moment of 0.65 μB per Si dangling bond was found for both the AF and the most stable ferromagnetic state of the SiC-siligraphene system. Finally, we demonstrate that quasi-free-standing epitaxial siligraphene layers on 6H-SiC(0001) could be obtained by the intercalation of argon atoms. We expect that this work can motivate new experimental studies pursuing the synthesis of SiC3 siligraphene.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Helminths use an alternative mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC) under hypoxic conditions, such as those found in the gastrointestinal tract. In this alternative ETC, fumarate is the final electron acceptor and rhodoquinone (RQ) serves as an electron carrier. RQ receives electrons from reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide through complex I and donates electrons to fumarate through complex II. In this latter reaction, complex II functions in the opposite direction to the conventional ETC (i.e., as fumarate reductase instead of succinate dehydrogenase). Studies in Ascaris suum indicate that this is possible due to changes in complex II, involving alternative succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) subunits SDHA and SDHD, derived from duplicated genes. We analyzed helminth genomes and found that distinct lineages have different gene duplications of complex II subunits (SDHA, SDHB, SDHC, and SDHD). Similarly, we found lineage-specific duplications in genes encoding complex I subunits that interact with quinones (NDUF2 and NDUF7). The phylogenetic analysis of ETC subunits revealed a complex history with independent evolutionary events involving gene duplications and losses. Our results indicated that there is not a common evolutionary event related to ETC subunit genes linked to RQ. The free-living nematode Caenorhabditis elegans uses RQ and has two genes encoding SDHA (sdha-1 and sdha-2) and two genes encoding NDUF2 (nduf2-1 and nduf2-2). sdha-1 and nduf2-1 are essential genes and have a similar expression pattern during C. elegans lifecycle. Using knockout strains, we found that sdha-2 and nduf2-2 are not essential, even in hypoxia. Yet, sdha-2 and nduf2-2 expression is increased in the early embryo and in dauer larvae, stages where there is low oxygen tension. Strikingly, sdha-1 and sdha-2 as well as nduf2-1 and nduf2-2 showed inverted expression profiles during the C. elegans life cycle. Finally, we found that sdha-2 and nduf2-2 knockout mutant strain progeny is affected. Our results indicate that different complex I and II subunit gene duplications provide increased fitness to worms.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Microbial biodiversity and its rich arsenal of natural products is an important and complex biological concept. We propose the use of Streptomyces, one of the most diverse bacterial genera and a major inhabitant of soil, as a model to explain the relevance and importance of this concept. Students will perform experiments ranging from isolation and selection of Streptomyces species, to performing fungal and bacterial challenge assays to evaluate their biocontrol capacity, to screening for specialized metabolic properties such as the production of lipases, amylases, and cellulases. Accompanied by active discussions on the experimental process and results, and integrated into the general microbiology curriculum, this real-life discovery-based lab exercise engages students in current topics concerning natural product discovery and reinforces their understanding of several important concepts in microbiology and biotechnology]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Echinococcus granulosus is a cestode parasite whose cytoskeleton plasticity allows it to enter and develop inside its hosts, completing thus its life cycle. We focused our attention on F-actin organization and distribution in E. granulosus protoscoleces (PSC) in order to contribute to the knowledge of the parasite cytoskeleton. In particular, we addressed some aspects of F-actin rearrangements in PSC at different stages of the evagination/invagination process. The use of light microscopy allowed us to identify different PSC structures and phalloidin staining displayed a parasite's highly organized F-actin cytoskeleton. Suckers exhibit an important musculature composed of a set of radial fibers. At the rostellum, the F-actin filaments are arranged in a bulbar shape with perforations that appear to be the attachment places for the hooks. Also, "circular" structures of F-actin were identified, which remind the flame cells. Furthermore, parasite F-actin filaments, unevenly distributed, seem to have remained substantially unchanged during the evagination/invagination process. Finally, we showed that the scolex of an evaginated E. granulosus PSC reinvaginates in vitro without any treatment.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The effectiveness was evaluated for an established wood preservative, zinc borate, prepared in an agitating bead mill to extensively reduce its particle size. The generated micro- or nano-particles of zinc borate were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, and the particle size distribution was determined to evaluate the effect of milling. Then the fungicidal effectiveness of the zinc borate of both milled and unmilled samples were assayed against brown- and white-rot fungi, on culture medium and on conifer and hardwood as substrates. Treated wood samples were subjected to leaching tests. Scanning electron microscopic images of wood samples were examined to analyze the distribution of zinc borate within the wood. The micronized zinc product kept its crystal structure intact, and it increased the proportion of particles with diameters below 100 nm by 25% when compared to the unmilled product. Malt extract-agar medium supplemented with 2.5% of w/w milled and unmilled zinc borate inhibited fungal growth tested. Both milled and unmilled zinc borate protected the wood when not subjected to leaching. The milled sample of zinc borate improved resistance to leaching, which would allow its application in environments of high moisture content; however, it did not improve the fungicidal action against decay fungi.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The capacity of microorganisms from water kefir (WK) to control Aspergillus flavus growth during the aerobic phase of ensiled sorghum grains was determined. Sorghum inoculated with A. flavus was treated with filter-sterilized and non-sterilized water kefir, ensiled, and incubated 7 days at 25 °C. A. flavus growth was quantified by qPCR after incubation. Mold growth was inhibited in the presence of water kefir while no inhibition was observed when filter-sterilized water kefir was applied, demonstrating the relevant role of the microorganisms in the kefir water in the biocontrol process. Fungal and bacterial diversity in treated sorghum mini-silos was analyzed by high-throughput sequencing. Firmicutes was the predominant bacterial phyla and Lactobacillus represented the most abundant genus, while Ascomycota was the predominant fungal phyla with Saccharomyces and Pichia as the major genera. Bacterial and yeast counts before and after incubation indicated that the microbial community obtained from WK was able to grow in the sorghum mini-silos in the presence of A. flavus. Results of the present work indicate that the use of a mixed inoculum of microorganisms present in WK may represent an alternative management practice to avoid the growth of A. flavus in ensiled sorghum grains and the concomitant contamination with aflatoxins.]]></dcterms:abstract>
