Iboga alkaloids are monoterpene indole alkaloids (MIAs) containing a fused isoquinuclidine-tetrahydroazepine ring. Both the natural products and the iboga-inspired synthetic analogs have shown a wide variety of biological activities. Herein, we describe the chemoenzymatic preparation of a small library of novel N-indolylethyl-substituted isoquinuclidines as iboga-inspired compounds, using toluene as a starting material and an imine Diels–Alder reaction as the key step in the synthesis. The new iboga series was investigated for its potential to promote the release of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) by C6 glioma cells, and to inhibit the growth of infective trypanosomes. GDNF is a neurotrophic factor widely recognized by its crucial role in development, survival, maintenance, and protection of dopaminergic neuronal circuitries affected in several neurological and psychiatric pathologies. Four compounds of the series showed promising activity as GDNF releasers, and a leading structure (compound 11) was identified for further studies. Biodiesel generated by transesterification of triglycerides from renewable sources is a clean form of energy that is currently used in many countries in blends with petrodiesel. It is mainly produced from food-grade vegetable oils obtained from oleaginous crops. High prices of these oils have made the sustainability of biodiesel production questionable. The use of nonedible feedstocks, such as intracellular triglycerides accumulated by oleaginous yeasts, appears as a feasible alternative. However, it has been demonstrated that an economically sustainable production of yeast oil could only be possible if lowcost media based on industrial subproducts, or wastes are used. In this work, we propose intracellular lipids production by a previously selected oleaginous yeast strain in a medium composed only by sugar cane vinasse and crude glycerol. Different culture strategies were studied. The highest biomass and lipid yields were obtained when the yeast R. graminis S1/2R was cultivated in batch without control of dissolved oxygen. The fatty acid methyl esters obtained under these conditions met the specification of international biodiesel standards. Attitude measurement occupies a central position in consumer research. Concerns over the validity and reliability of traditional measures have motivated the development of alternative approaches. The present research introduces text highlighting as a method for measurement of explicit attitudes using a case study on vertical farming (VF) with 837 UK consumers. They participated in an online survey, where they read a text about VF and used highlighting functions to mark text as ‘like’ and ‘dislike.’ Consumers approached the task in a systematic and logical way and desirable aspects of VF were frequently highlighted as ‘like’, whereas undesirable aspects were more frequently highlighted as ‘dislike’. The text highlighting responses were summarised using word clouds, frequency tables and through sentiment scores to reveal an overall positive attitude to VF among participants. Sentiment scores enabled the identification of consumer segments with interpretable differences in their attitude towards VF. Two approaches to method validation – comparison with direct attitude questions and consumer profiling – further confirmed the potential of the text highlighting method. The sentiment of specific sentences in the text highlighting task matched results from self-reported attitudinal based on Likert scales. Consumer segments with different sentiment in the text highlighting task also differed in their food technology neophobia scores in the expected direction. Future research should investigate methodological aspects of text highlighting and explore its suitability to other applications. Despite being a preventable and curable disease, Tuberculosis (TB) is the world's top infectious killer. Development of new drugs is urgently needed. In this work, the synthesis and characterization of new silver(I) complexes, that include N′ -[(E)-(pyridine-2-ylmethylene)pyrazine-2-carbohydrazide, HPCPH, as main ligand and substituted aryl-phosphines as auxiliary ligands, is reported. HPCPH was synthesized from pyrazinoic acid, the active metabolite of the first-line antimycobacterial drug pyrazinamide. Complexes [Ag(HPCPH)(PPh3)2]OTf (1), [Ag(HPCPH)((P(p-tolyl)3)2]OTf (2) and [Ag(HPCPH)(P(p-anisyl)3)2]OTf (3) were characterized in solid state and in solution by elemental analysis and FTIR and NMR spectroscopies (OTf––triflate). Crystal structures of (1,2) were determined by XRD. The Ag atom is coordinated to azomethine and pyridine nitrogen atoms of HPCPH ligand and to the phosphorous atom of each aryl-phosphine co-ligand. Although HPCPH did not show activity, the Ag(I) compounds demonstrated activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), H37Rv strain, and multidrug resistant clinical isolates (MDR-TB). Globally, results showed that the compounds are not only effective against the sensitive strain, but are more potent against MDR-TB than antimycobacterial drugs used in therapy. The compounds showed low to moderate selectivity index values (SI) towards the bacteria, using MRC-5 cells (ATCC CCL-171) as mammalian cell model. Interaction with DNA was explored to get insight into the potential mechanism of action against the pathogen. No significant interaction was detected, allowing to discard this biomolecule as a potential molecular target. Compound 1 was identified as a hit compound (MIC90 2.23 μM; SI 4.4) to develop further chemical modifications in the search for new drugs. During the last years, the progression to control malaria disease seems to be slowed and WHO (World Health Organization) reported a modeling analysis with the prediction of the increase in malaria morbidity and mortality in sub-Saharan Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. A rapid way to the discovery of new drugs could be carried out by performing investigations to identify drugs based on repurposing of “old” drugs. The 5-nitrothiazole drug, Nitazoxanide was shown to be active against intestinal protozoa, human helminths, anaerobic bacteria, viruses, etc. In this work, Nitazoxanide and analogs were prepared using two methodologies and evaluated against P. falciparum 3D7. A bithiazole analog, showed attractive inhibitory activity with an EC50 value of 5.9 μM, low propensity to show toxic effect against HepG2 cells at 25 μM, and no cross-resistance with standard antimalarials. The essential oil composition of the aerial parts from Baccharis palustris Heering (Asteraceae), a highly endangered species, was analyzed by GC/qMS, GC/HRMS-TOF, FT-IR, UV–vis and NMR spectroscopy using 1D and 2D techniques. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the essential oil composition of B. palustris, as well as the first phytochemical study on this plant species. The volatile extracts were obtained from different phenologicals stages of plant, at flowering stage (FS) and vegetative stage (VS), where 51 components were identified accounting for 96.3 % and 99.0 % of the oil, respectively. The oil was rich in polyacetylene compounds (> 75 %), being the main components identified the new natural C9-polyacetylenes 1-nonene-3,5-diyne (1, here named as baccharisdiyne) (52.7–65.0 %), 1,7(Z)-nonadiene-3,5-diyne [2, 7(Z)-dehydro-baccharisdiyne] (14.4–17.8 %), and 1,7(E)-nonadiene-3,5-diyne [3, 7(E)-dehydro-baccharisdiyne] (1.5–2.4 %). In addition, the known polyacetylenic compounds (Z)-lachnophyllum acid methyl ester (4) (4.3–5.3 %) and (E)-lachnophyllum acid methyl ester (5) (0.2 %) were also identified. Moreover, GC/qMS analysis allowed the identification of other 46 components in the essential oil samples, mainly mono- and sesquiterpenoids. In B. palustris, C9-polyacetylenes probably derive biogenetically from a C10 precursor: baccharisdiyne (1) would be derived from either or both lachnophyllum methyl ester geometric isomers (4 or 5), by enzymatic hydrolysis followed by decarboxylation. Dehydro-baccharisdiynes (2 and 3) could be produced by a similar  pathway starting from the corresponding matricaria acid methyl ester isomers, one of which was tentatively identified at trace-level in B. palustris essential oil. We herein report the use of Ugi and Groebke–Blackburn–Bienaymé multicomponent reactions under efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly conditions to synthesize a small collection of nitric-oxide-releasing molecules. The in vitro antiproliferative activity of the synthesized compounds was measured against two different human cancer cell lines, LNCaP (prostate) and T24 (bladder). Almost all compounds displayed antiproliferative activity against both cancer cell lines, providing lead compounds with nanomolar GI50 values against the cancer bladder cell line with selectivity indices higher than 10. A hydride generation nitrogen microwave induced plasma optical emission spectrometry (HG-MIP OES) system was developed for lead determination. Plumbane chemical generation was performed using 0.045 mol L�1 K3Fe(CN)6 as the additive in acidic medium and 2.0% w/v NaBH4 in 1% w/v NaOH as the reductant. The additivated sample and the reductant were pumped towards a cyclonic chamber where hydride generation and separation from the solution occurred. Operating conditions such as the additive and reductant concentration, sample, reductant and nitrogen flow-rate, the cyclonic chamber stabilization time and the viewing position in the torch were optimized. A meticulous study of the variation of the nitrogen plasma response as a function of the hydrochloric acid concentration was carried out. The analytical performance of the method was studied and its applicability evaluated in a Trace Element in Water Certified Reference Material and a Soil Reference Material. The method performance in terms of limits of detection and quantification (0.54 mg L�1 and 1.8 mg L�1 Pb, respectively) was found comparable to other atomic spectrometry techniques. This is to our knowledge the first research on the analytical performance of lead determination by PbH4 generation and determination by MIP OES. Biofuel production from biomass sources emerges as a promising alternative to solve the actual environmental crisis and lead to a transition to a carbon-free future. In this sense, hydrogen produced through steam reforming of a biomass-derived biofuel, such as bio-oil, appears as an interesting energetic vector. The aim of this work is the hydrogen production through steam reforming of small organic model compounds present in the aqueous fraction of bio-oil (ethanol, acetic acid, acetone) and, for a better approximation to a real system, emulate such aqueous fraction by a representative mixture of these. Ternary mixed oxides Ni-La-Me catalysts (Me = Ce, Ti, Zr) were prepared, characterized through X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, thermogravimetric analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and scanning electron microscopy, and tested in the steam reforming reactions. Results indicate that, due to the intrinsic H2O adsorption capacity of ZrO2 as well to a higher number of oxygen vacancies in the catalyst structure, Ni-La-Zr presents interesting properties for its potential applicability as industrial catalyst for hydrogen production through steam reforming. On the other hand, the strong metal-support interactions on Ni-La-Ti led to a lower catalytic activity caused by a lower segregation of Ni crystallites from the mixed oxide structure. There is great interest in the study of the optical properties of materials such as glasses, due to their possible technological applications and from a fundamental point of view. For this reason, an attempt has been made to advance the understanding of the existence of optical band gap in this type of material. In recent times, several ways of analyzing the dependence of the absorption coefficient with energy have been proposed. Using lead, strontium, and barium borate glasses as a model, this dependence has been analyzed. For this, we considered the glass structure and the corresponding crystal structure, and the value of the optical band gap energy has been discussed considering the theory of Mott and Davis and comparing with values of crystals and glasses of similar composition. Here, we used a correction method, that takes into account intrinsic defects, to obtain the values of optical band gap energies in the framework of a non-direct transition. We also include DFT simulations of the corresponding crystalline compounds and the band gap was evaluated. The absorption coefficient obtained from simulations shows the same trend that the experimental one. The aim of the present work was to explore the potential of Biterm Topic Modelling (BTM) for analysing responses to open-ended survey questions in the pursuit of consumer insights. The selection of BTM was based on its suitability to the analysis of short texts compared to other approaches such as Latent Dirichlet Allocation. The empirical context was vertical farming (VF), which participants read a short text about and then answered a question about interest in buying fruits and vegetables from VF. The data came from US consumers (n = 1803) who provided answers with a median length of 9 words. Results were promising about the potential of BTM to uncover latent topics from responses to open-ended questions. The models predicted coherent and consistent topics relating to VF, including buying VF produce or not and year-round fruit and vegetable supply. Two variants of the text about VF were used (n ~ 900 per variant), and BTM models trained on responses to the variant which emphasised the possibility of using genetic engineering in VF consistently predicted topics related to genetic engineering. Models trained on responses to the variant which emphasized urban production and reduction of carbon emissions linked to product transportation, consistently revealed topics associated to production, environment, and local farming. The major limitation was not taking account of sentiment in consumers’responses, an issue that BTM shares with other topic models. This is a significant hindrance in the efforts to rely on machine learning for consumer insights. Benzimidazole methylcarbamate anthelmintics, including fenbendazole (FBZ), have only limited water solubility and small differences in drug solubility may have a major influence on their absorption, pharmacokinetic behavior and anthelmintic efficacy. To improve FBZ water solubility and dissolution rate, novel self-dispersible nanocrystals (SDNCs) of FBZ were recently described. In this work, the pharmacokinetic behavior of the SDNCs of FBZ and Poloxamer 188 was compared against a physical mixture (PM) of its components. The experiment was conducted following a crossover design with two different experimental phases. In phase I, sheep were treated with the SDNC (n = 3) or the PM (n = 3) formulations by the intraruminal route at the same dose rate (5 mg/kg). The treatment groups were reversed after a 7-days washout period. A non-compartmental analysis of the concentration in plasma versus time results showed that the calculated Cmax and AUC0-T were significantly higher (p < 0.05) for FBZ and its metabolites after the SDNC treatment compared to the PM (for FBZ: Cmax 0.346 μg/mL and AUC0-T 10.1 μg.h/mL after the SDNC vs Cmax 0.157 μg/mL and AUC0-T 5.1 μg.h/mL after the PM treatment). Additionally, population pharmacokinetic parameters of FBZ were estimated for the first time in sheep. In conclusion, the formulation of FBZ as SDNCs is a promising approach to improve FBZ dissolution reaching a higher drug plasma exposure in ruminants. The impact of the crystal size of the template zeolite on the textural properties of resulting Zeolite Templated Carbons was studied using nano- (20 nm) and micron-sized (5 μm) zeolite beta crystals. ZTCs were obtained for both nano- and micron-sized zeolite beta crystals, yet for the micron-sized sample the presence of supermicropores and small mesopores was detected, indicating a higher degree of structural defects during the templating process and hence in the final ZTC. The insights gained from nitrogen physisorption were confirmed by TEM, TGA and XPS. Despite, long range structural order, evidenced by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) for both, nano- and micron-sized ZTCs was inferred. These results suggests that XRD patterns allow to evidence the well-ordered part of the sample but might not be the method of choice for characterizing the structural quality of ZTCs. Simulated XRD powder patterns allowed to propose a graphene-based nanoribbon structure grown in the zeolite pores as a satisfactory model for ZTCs in beta zeolite. The aim of this work was to develop nanomaterials that can be used as sensitizers in radiotherapy treatment. The synthesis of bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) particles with nanometer size by the hot injection method was studied as well as their behavior when coated with a biocompatible agent. The hot injection method allowed us to synthesize Bi2S3 nanorods measuring in average 4.2 ± 1.4 nm in width and 27.5 ± 16.3 nm in length. Moreover, to improve their biocompatibility, these nanorods were coated with polyvinylpyrrolidone with the purpose of studying the behavior of nanorods in the bloodstream. The results indicated that the suspensions were more stable when the media had protein components which may facilitate the blood circulation of the particles. The toxicity of the nanorods and their radiosensitization potential were evaluated and determined in breast cancer cells (MCF7). These results show that the synthesized nanorods did not evidence cytotoxicity up to a concentration of 2500 μg/mL, over 72 h of incubation. On the other hand, the sensitivity of MCF7 cells with and without nanorods in the culture medium, afterward irradiating them with a dose of 2 Gy 60Co gamma radiation source, showed a 38% increase in cell death when compared to cells that were only irradiated. Our results show that Bi2S3 nanorods are very promising as anticancer agents improving the efficiency of radiotherapy. An experimental investigation of the structure and crystal-chemistry of the triple perovskite BaSr2MgTa2O9 is reported. Polycrystalline BaSr2MgTa2O9 was synthesized via solid-state reaction and its structure quantitatively probed at 10 and 300 K using neutron diffraction. Monoclinic (A2/m, a0 b– b–) and trigonal structural models (P3c1, a–a–a–) were fit to diffraction data. The former was found to correctly reproduce experimental intensities, while the latter failed to do so. This difference is attributed to the ability of the monoclinic model to accurately reflect octahedral tilting. BaSr2MgTa2O9 features corner-sharing MgO6 and TaO6 octahedra with barium and strontium cations occupying cubooctahedral holes. Barium and strontium are disordered over the A site, whereas B site cations magnesium and tantalum are ordered. Chemical substitution of strontium for barium in Ba3MgTa2O9 induces tilting of MgO6 and TaO6 octahedra in two directions and geometric distortions of MgO6 octahedra. The novel methodologies, based on the use of a microwave- assisted protocol (MW) or a sealed vessel conventionally heated reactor (SVR) are faster, more efficient and render higher yields (average increase in yield = 11% and 16%, respectively). For the solid state char- acterization, infrared spectra of the obtained compounds were analyzed with the aid of computational tools for signal assignation. In addition, a new crystal structure for the E isomer of compound 2d was obtained and a thorough analysis of the intra and intermolecular interactions was performed by Hir- shfeld surface analysis. On the other hand, the hybrids were characterized in DMSO-d 6 solution by 1 H and 13 C NMR experiments. All of them showed a set of minor signals neither ascribable to the products nor described in the literature. Variable temperature 1 H NMR experiments revealed that a single inter- conversion equilibrium was operative in the solution, having thermodynamic parameters compatible to those predicted for a Z/E isomerization process by a DFT model. The most stable configuration ( E ) was further confirmed by DFT, calculating the 13 C NMR chemical shifts for both configurations. The compu- tational model shows that the E configuration is stabilized through the formation of a non-conventional C-H ···O = C intramolecular H-bond between the methyl and carbonyl groups, adopting a conformation less sterically strained. These findings allow to gain insights into the E / Z isomerization equilibria displayed by thiosemicarbazones in solution, a phenomenon usually under described in literature, which seems to be promoted by a balance between weak intramolecular interactions that modulate the relative isomeric stability in solution. Highthroughput omics approaches can provide in-depth insights into the mechanism of action of new metal-based compounds. Discovering new metallodrugs against Trypanosoma cruzi is an emerging field. Combining metallomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics allows the identification of multiple molecular targets and several parasitic metabolic pathways affected by V(IV), Pt(II), and Pd(II) potential antiparasitic drugs. Specifically, metallomics studies with Pd(II) and Pt(II) analogous compounds show higher parasite uptake of the Pt(II) than Pd(II), and both accumulate similarly in the parasite DNA fraction. Unexpectedly, vanadium did not associate with DNA. The studies reviewed illustrate the use of omics techniques for determining molecular targets of potential therapeutic agents. Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato (s.l.) is the helminth parasite responsible for cystic echinococcosis, a neglected tropical disease currently affecting millions of people worldwide. Incomplete knowledge on the parasite biochemistry contributes, at least partially, to the limited development of useful biotechnological advances for the infection control. In this sense, little information is available regarding post-translational modifications (PTMs) occurring in E. granulosus s.l. proteins, which ultimately may affect the performance of biotechnological products to be developed. Therefore, we report here a proteomic analysis of the parasite PTMs identified through FindMod software applied to a set of tegumental proteins previously characterized by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/TOF) analysis of protein spots from a 2D electrophoresis gel. Manual searches for already annotated proteins exhibiting such PTMs were also performed within proteome databases of E. granulosus s.l. and other platyhelminthes. In addition, key enzymes involved in PTMs modifications were searched for within E. granulosus s.l. proteome. Finally, the presence of selected PTMs was further confirmed by a high-resolution proteomic approach (nanoLC-MS/MS). A set of 22 different PTMs most likely to be present in the parasite was suggested, 9 of them with high confidence as they were identified in the same m/z fragment by both proteomic techniques (acetylation, deamidation, deamidation followed by methylation, mono- and dihydroxylation, mono- and di-methylation, S-nitrosylation and phosphorylation). Interestingly, 5 PTMs were herein identified for the first time in E. granulosus s.l. proteins. Our results expand the scarcely studied topic of PTMs in platyhelminthes. To tackle current nutritional issues like obesity, it could be valuable to involve children in the development of healthy food products that they will actively chose and enjoy. The aims of the present exploratory study were (i) to assess a methodology for early-stage idea generation through co-creation, for the development of healthy snacks with pre-adolescents, and (ii) to compare two settings, creative focus groups (CFG) and an online community (ONL). Three steps were defined to allow the gradual exploration of the topic and mutual learning throughout the process: (1) Show &Tell: photo taking and -elicitation to understand what children ate; (2) Reflect: a sorting task of the pictures to discuss and reflect on snacking practices (3) Create: an idea generation step, in which a newspaper article describing an idea for a new healthy snack was created. To increase engagement and creativity, gamification strategies were used. Our results demonstrated that children (preadolescents) can create new food product ideas with the proposed process, using enabling and creative techniques. In the CFG the trained moderator could steer the group to the co-creation goal. The setting facilitated teamwork and group learning, collaborative ideas considering preferences of peers and produced a few detailed and mostly actionable ideas. In the ONL less control over the process was possible. The setting produced many ideas varying in the degree of detail and actionability focusing on individual preferences. The feedback and observations from our study, particularly in the CFG setting, implied that the creative approach was highly engaging for participants. Further research is necessary to assess the potential of initial ideas developed by pre- adolescents. Sensory and consumer research increasingly aims to gain direct input from children to study their eating behaviour. However, answering self-administered questionnaires can be challenging for children. In this sense, the prediction of basic emotions via facial decoding, generating quantitative observational data, could offer an alternative to questionnaires. The present study aimed to measure children’s implicit and explicit basic emotions elicited by tasting, through the use of facial decoding and compare them to children’s liking ratings in a case study with flavoured chocolate milk samples. Children aged 9–10 participated in the study (n = 48). Six samples based on two design of experiment factors Added sugar (yes / no) and Surprise flavour (peppermint / liquorice/ no added flavour) were tested. The software iMotions with the AFFDEX algorithm was used for facial decoding. For each sample, facial expression was measured immediately after tasting (implicit basic emotions). Then, children were asked to show a facial expression related to their feelings when they tasted the chocolate milk (explicit basic emotions) and rate their liking on a 7-point-scale. Implicit and explicit basic emotion likelihoods from facial decoding were correlated to liking ratings regarding the factor Surprise flavour. As in previous studies, the measurement of implicit basic emotions discriminated samples according to negative emotions (anger and disgust) which had higher likelihoods in disliked samples with Surprise flavour (peppermint and liquorice). Facial decoding of explicit basic emotions was the only measurement discriminating samples also according to the factor Added sugar, an advantage over liking ratings. The positive emotion joy, as well as negative emotions (sadness, fear, anger, disgust and contempt), were significant in the explicit evaluation. The results add to previous literature suggesting that the measurement of implicit emotions via facial decoding can be useful to study negative emotions. The study aimed to assess the application of the Approach avoidance task (AAT) with children to measure implicit motivational tendencies towards foods differing in sweetness and calorie content and to explore the relationship between approach bias and explicit measurements of expected liking, attitudes, and hunger state and their relation to paired-preference tasks. The simplicity and game-like procedure of the AAT, where participants use a joystick to pull or push pictures, seems particularly suitable to measure implicit motivational biases in children. However, to our knowledge, this approach has not been used with children in a food related context. Children aged 9–11 participated in the study (n = 114). Their implicit bias towards pictures of snacks was measured via AAT. The test instruction was based on pushing or pulling the joystick according to picture category, food vs. non-food: food (18 snack pictures varying in sweetness and calorie) vs. non-food (18 pictures visually similar to the respective food stimuli). Further, children rated their expected liking of the snack pictures, answered an attitude questionnaire related to health and sugar consumption, and completed two paired preference tests tasting real samples under blind condition and choosing between a sugar and no-sugar added chocolate milk take-home pack. The percentage of non-valid AAT responses was relatively high, leading to low testing power. There was a significant difference in approach bias between food pictures and non-food pictures; approach bias was positive for food and slightly negative for non-food. Within food pictures, no significant effect of sweetness nor calorie was found. Nevertheless, children’s approach biases were linked to their expected liking ratings, which revealed a clear preference towards high sweetness and high calorie snacks. Individual differences in children’s approach bias to pictures differing in sweetness and calorie content were related to their hunger state but not to their attitudes or preference towards chocolate milk, indicating relevance for situational food choices. In the present study, questionnaire-based measurements (affective and cognitive attitude towards sugar, sugar craving and using food as reward) were however associated with children’s preference towards chocolate milk (blind and/or informed). Higher scores in the measured attitude subscales craving for sweet food, using food as reward, affective attitude towards sweet food and cognitive attitude towards sweet food were associated with higher odds to choose the sugar added chocolate milk. Methodological considerations and recommendations with regards to the use of approachavoidance testing with children are critically discussed. In the present work the feasibility of Tannat grape skin (TGS) as a functional ingredient in the formulation of two snacks (yogurt and biscuits) was studied. The research provided novel information on the effects of the food matrix and digestion process, under simulated human oral gastrointestinal conditions, in the bioaccessibility of TGS bioactive compounds composing of the snacks with health promoting properties (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic). TGS polyphenolic profile was analyzed by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) finding mainly flavonoids, phenolic acids, and anthocyanins, which may exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and carbohydrase inhibition capacities. TGS digest showed antioxidant and antidiabetic potential compared to the undigested sample (p < 0.05). Yogurt and biscuits with TGS were developed with the nutrition claims “no-added sugars” and “source of fiber” and were digested in vitro to evaluate the bioaccessibility of compounds with health promoting properties after food processing and digestion. After in vitro simulation of digestion, bioactive properties were enhanced for control and TGS snacks which may be attributed to the formation/release of compounds with health-promoting properties. Biscuits showed significant increase in ABTS antioxidant capacity and yogurt showed increased �-glucosidase inhibition capacity by the addition of TGS (p < 0.05). Polyphenols from TGS and bioactive peptides from snacks which may be released during digestion might be responsible for the observed bioactivities. Consumer’s acceptance of TGS yogurt and biscuits showed scores of 6.3 and 5.1 (scale 1–9), respectively, showing TGS yogurt had higher overall acceptance. Sensory profile assessed by check-all-that-apply + just-about-right (CATA+JAR) showed most of the attributes were evaluated as “just about right”, supporting good food quality. The developed yogurt presented adequate shelf-life parameters for 28 days. TGS yogurt with higher acceptability showed reduced ROS formation (p < 0.05) induced by tert-butyl hydroperoxide (1 mM) in CCD-18Co colon cells and RAW264.7 macrophages when pre-treated with concentrations 500–1000 and 100–500 �g/mL of the digests, respectively. Moreover, TGS yogurt digest pre-treatment reduced nitric oxide (NO) production (p < 0.05) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 macrophages, showing anti-inflammatory potential. Bioactive peptides generated during lactic fermentation and digestion process may be contributors to intracellular effects. In conclusion, yogurt and biscuits with Tannat grape skin addition were obtained with nutrition claims “no-added sugars” and “source of fiber” with the potential to modulate key biochemical events associated with diabetes pathogenesis. Aptamers are oligonucleotides that have the characteristic of recognizing a target with high affinity and specificity. Based on our previous studies, the aptamer probe Sgc8-c-Alexa647 is a promising tool for molecular imaging of PTK7, which is an interesting biomarker in cancer. In order to improve the delivery of this probe as well as create a novel drug delivery nanosystem targeted to the PTK7 receptor, we evaluate the co-association between the probe and preformed nanostructures. In this work, preformed pegylated liposomes (PPL) and linear and branched pristine polymeric micelles (PMs), based on PEO–PPO–PEO triblock copolymers were used: poloxamer F127® and poloxamines T1307® and T908®. For it, Sgc8-c-Alexa647 and its co-association with the different nanostructures was exhaustively analyzed. DLS analysis showed nanometric sizes, and TEM and AFM showed notable differences between free- and co-associated probe. Likewise, all nanosystems were evaluated on A20 lymphoma cell line overexpressing PTK7, and the confocal microscopy images showed distinctness in cellular uptake. Finally, the biodistribution in BALB/c mice bearing lymphoma-tumor and pharmacokinetic study revealed an encouraging profile for T908-probe. All data obtained from this work suggested that PMs and, more specifically T908 ones, are good candidates to improve the pharmacokinetics and the tumor uptake of aptamer-based probes. Food packaging design has become a key component of the marketing mix of companies to ensure the long-term success of their products, and to convey information that set apart their products from competitors. The aim of this review is to critically discuss the role of food packaging on children’s diet. Food package design plays a key role in attracting children and parents’ attention, shaping product associations, and influencing their purchase decisions. Packaging elements attracting children’s attention and misleading health-related visual and textual cues may encourage children and their parents to choose energy-dense food products with excessive content of sugar, fat, and sodium. Results from this review suggest that comprehensive packaging regulations are necessary to protect children’s health and encourage healthier eating habits from early years. Such regulations should go beyond products targeted at children, making informed decisions easier to encourage healthier choices, and including restrictions on the use of health-related cues on all products, as they ultimately influence the diet and the food available in the household.
