Los biomateriales han evolucionado hacia la creación de dispositivos que se adapten al organismo biológico al cual se integran. Diferentes materiales han sido utilizados con el fin de mejorar su resistencia y biocompatibilidad. El presente trabajo de investigación explora una perspectiva diferente a la síntesis de materiales para sustitución ósea. En base a un modelo diseñado de interacción entre superficies (metal – proteína), se formuló como hipótesis de trabajo la idea que la dimensionalidad de la superficie y la dimensionalidad de la estructura debían ser diferentes para cumplir con una adecuada complementariedad de las superficies interaccionantes. Esta hipótesis se trasladó al desarrollo de biomateriales y al estudio de la interacción a nivel de la interface metal – cobertura de hidroxiapatita. Para ello se estudió la morfología y las propiedades fisicoquímicas de tres materiales con superficies modificadas a nivel macro y micro, con y sin hidroxiapatita por técnicas de SEM, FTIR, EDS, XPS, AFM, XRD y EIS. Los resultados mostraron la incidencia de la nanoestructuración del metal y la presencia de regiones no-apatíticas en los eventos de reconocimiento molecular a nivel de la interface. Con base en estos resultados, se discute la formulación de una nueva visión para el diseño de biomateriales implantables

El propóleos y el orujo de uvas son productos reconocidos por contener antioxidantes. Un extracto elaborado en base a ellos podría ser de gran aplicabilidad en las industrias alimenticia (alimentos funcionales, nutracéutico), farmacéutica (fitofármacos), y/o de aditivos preservantes de la oxidación. El trabajo de investigación presentado en esta Tesis de Doctorado fue basado en la necesidad de generar conocimiento en cuanto a las características fisicoquímicas, farmacológicas y biológicas de esos dos productos naturales uruguayos. Con el mismo se aportó nuevo conocimiento científico en la aplicación de metodología in silico al estudio de mezclas complejas de fenoles en propóleos y orujos de uvas que se complementó con las de laboratorio húmedo o in vitro. Los fenoles, moléculas antioxidantes detectadas en los propóleos y orujos de uvas, atrapan radicales libres modulando el estrés oxidativo celular. Presentan en su estructura grupos aromáticos hidroxilados e intervienen en los mecanismos redox de vegetales y animales, promoviendo un descenso de la cantidad de especies reactivas de oxigeno (ROS). En los propóleos se han identificado flavonoides (como flavonas y flavanonas), ácidos aromáticos y sus ésteres, aldehídos aromáticos, cumarinas y triglicéridos fenólicos. Los orujos de uvas contienen estilbenos, antocianinas, taninos, catequinas, flavanoles, flavonoles y flavonas. El perfil estructural es complementario de tal manera, que un “cóctel polifenólico” elaborado a partir de propóleos y orujos de uvas uruguayos, contendrá un amplio rango de estructuras fenólicas que sirvan para desarrollar un extracto patronizado en cuanto a sus capacidades como antioxidante y antiinflamatorio. Dado que es característica en los productos naturales la alta variabilidad en sus contenidos de fenoles, cualquier potencial aplicabilidad industrial implica la necesidad de analizarlos cualitativa y cuantitativamente así como su funcionalidad. Para lograrlo, se realizaron muestreos, se optimizaron los procesos extractivos, se analizaron los contenidos fenólicos totales, la capacidad antioxidante por los métodos DPPH y ABTS, se realizó la dilucidación de sus huellas dactilares de protón por resonancia magnética nuclear (RMN 1H), se estudió la reactividad de los grupos OH y la energía de disociación del enlace O-H de los polifenoles como formadores del radical libre mediante química cuántica DFT (M06-2X/6-311+G(3df,2p) y G4. BACKGROUND: The differential characteristic of sparkling wine is the formation of foam, which is dependent, among other factors, on yeast autolysis, aging and oenological practices. In this study, we analyzed the effects of yeast strain, nutrient supplementation to the base wine and aging process on the sparkling wine composition and its foamability. RESULTS: We determined that the addition of inorganic nitrogen promoted nitrogen liberation to the extracellular medium, while the addition of inactive dry yeast to the base wine caused an increase in the polysaccharide concentration and foaming properties of the sparkling wine. The use of synthetic and natural base wines allowed us to discriminate that the differences in high-molecular-weight polysaccharides and oligosaccharides could be attributed to the yeast cells and that the higher nitrogen content in the natural wine could be due to external proteolysis. CONCLUSION: The practices of nitrogen addition and supplementation of inactive dry yeast could modulate the main characteristics of the sparkling wine and be a critical element for the design of this kind of wine.

A microwave-assisted and base-catalyzed domino manifold to construct 2,4-cyclohexadienone derivatives has been implemented. The domino manifold uses easily accessible tertiary propargyl vinyl ethers bearing a methine group at the homopropargylic position and imidazole as the catalyst to deliver 2,4-cyclohexadienones featuring a key formyl group and a quaternized carbon atom in good yields.

The compound semiconductor HgI2 has been widely studied and employed as a material for ionizing radiation detection. Monocrystal growth is an intricate method for obtaining materials for this application. With the aim of finding a simpler and more effective way to develop ionizing radiation detectors, we employed HgI2 nanostructures subjected to a hydrothermal treatment and then pressed for this purpose. In the synthesis procedure, aqueous solutions of Hg(NO3)2 and NaI were mixed until their reaction completed and the suspension obtained was then placed in a homemade autoclave and heated at 120 °C for 2, 10 or 24 h. We confirmed the HgI2 tetragonal phase by powder XRD in all cases, independently of the synthesis conditions employed. Nanoparticles were characterized by their size and morphology by TEM. We used the HgI2 nanostructures to obtain a pellet by applying 0.7 GPa of pressure at room temperature. The pellet was then used to construct the detector, and we studied the electrical properties of the detector and its response to 241Am sources of different exposure rates. The resistivity and signal-to-noise ratio obtained are of the order of those reported for HgI2 detectors assembled with monocrystals. The results obtained in this work encourage us to work further on this topic, improving the method, scaling the detector's size and studying its spectrometric grade.

La inclusión de TIC en educación no implica en sí misma innovación ya que las tecnologías pueden usarse para la permanencia de modelos educativos inmutables y por tanto la adecuación y los alcances de la incorporación deben ser analizados. Con el objetivo de aportar elementos para la reflexión sobre las posibilidades de incorporar herramientas que permitan apoyar los procesos de enseñanza y de aprendizaje, se analizan los resultados obtenidos a partir de una experiencia realizada dentro del Departamento de Química Orgánica de la Facultad de Química, Universidad de la República. El presente trabajo analiza el uso de la herramienta wiki como parte del curso Laboratorio de Química Orgánica correspondiente a tercer año de todas las carreras de la Facultad de Química (Universidad de la República) a través de los informes elaborados, los registros de la plataforma y de las opiniones vertidas por los participantes de la experiencia.

A summary of the resource.
Three new polynuclear compounds based on a dicarboxylic acid ligand are reported. In particular, two Cu(II) coordination compounds, [Cu2(H2O)6(Hbzlidp)2](CF3SO3)2·2H2O (1) and [Cu(NO3)(Hbzlidp)]∞ (2) (bzlidp2− = N-benzyliminodipropionate anion), and a Ni(II) dinuclear compound, [Ni2(H2O)4(bzlidp)2] (3), were synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Different structures were obtained depending on the reaction conditions. The structural analyses reveal that 1 was formed by dinuclear [Cu2(H2O)6(Hbzlidp)2]2+ units built by two copper(II) ions joined through two Hbzlidp− ligands, while 2 was formed by pairs of Cu(II) centers bridged by four syn,syn carboxylate groups to generate “paddle wheel” units. The dinuclear copper units are arranged in a rhombus type grid, in a 2-D layer structure. In both cases, the N was protonated and not coordinated to the metal center. Compound 3 was formed by [Ni2(H2O)4(bzlidp)2] neutral dinuclear units, with octahedral Ni(II) centers. Solution studies of the ligand–M(II) systems (M(II) = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb) were also carried out.

In order to maintain the capacity to treat infections it is necessary to adopt strategies for the development of new drugs. The use of metal ions in medicine for their antimicrobial effects was prevalent for many years before the advent of antibiotics. During the second half of the twentieth century, active metal complexes with different chemical, physicochemical and biochemical properties than the constituents reborn by the threat posed by microbial multidrug resistance. In this review, essential transition metal drugs with Cu(II), Zn(II) and Fe(III), showing known chemical structure, antimicrobial activities better than the free ligands and reported in the last ten years, are presented. The scientific information realizes many metal complexes having antimicrobial activity, which covers Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria, mycobacteria, yeast and fungi and many of them would be good candidates for further pharmaceutical studies. For these reasons the strategy of metal coordination is a potent tool to get numerous and diverse new antimicrob

In this report, we study the tuning of the electrical transport dimensionality of polyaniline–graphene oxide quantum dots nanocomposites (PANI-GOQD) for electronic device applications. We focused this study on the microstructure and its correlations with electrical transport properties. X-ray diffraction and small-angle X-ray scattering analyses showed the effect that caused the addition of GOQD on the structural and microstructural properties of polyaniline. Confocal Raman spectroscopy revealed that the presence of GOQD leads to a notorious decrease of the polaron population of polyaniline. In relation to this experimental evidence, a significant increase in resistivity was observed for PANI-GOQD nanocomposites with respect to pure polyaniline. Electrical transport showed a typical Arrhenius behavior at relatively high temperatures and a broad transition with a logarithmic dependence of the activation energy with temperature for the intermediate temperature regime. Additionally, PANI-GOQD showed an increase in the hopping transport dimensionality even in the case of low amounts of GOQD. The tuning of this dimensionality in these nanocomposites could be important for the development of novel organic electronic materials.

Focus groups were used to explore attitudes to vegetable consumption among children aged between 9 and 12. Group meetings were used to gather data concerning habitually consumed foods (both in the home and at school), preferred meals, most consumed vegetables, motives for vegetable consumption and non-consumption, the perceptions of vegetable-eating and non-vegetable-eating children, and children’s suggested vegetable-based products. Major vegetable consumption drivers and barriers were analysed from the children’s perspective. The focus group data showed that certain sensory factors (taste, appearance and texture) are powerful consumption drivers. The identity and the creativity of the person who prepares the meals as well as vegetable consumption habits in the home were also found to have a major impact on attitudes towards consuming vegetable among these children.

A concise preparation of the all-(R) threo/trans/threo/ trans/threo bis-THF core present in natural acetogenins is presented. Starting from a terminal alkene, homometathesis and two consecutive stereoselective cyclizations afforded the bis-THF core through a short and efficient sequence. In addition, the isomeric erythro/trans/ threo/trans/erythro bis-THF core was also synthesized in high yield. The starting alkene was previously prepared from a homochiral cis-diol derived from biotransformation of bromobenzene.

We synthesized HgS nanostructures by the hydrothermal method in order to use them as electron acceptors in hybrid organic-inorganic solar cells. We employed different mercury sources (HgO and Hg(CH3COO)2) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) or hexadecanethiol (HDT) as stabilizing/capping agent for controlling size, crystallinity, morphology and stability of the obtained nanostructures. We also used thiourea as sulfur source, and a temperature of 180 °C during 6 h. Synthesized nanostructures were characterized by powder X-Ray Diffraction, Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform and Transmission Electron Microscopy. When PVP acts as stabilizing agent, the mercury source has influence on the size -but not in morphology- of the beta-HgS obtained nansostructures. HDT has control over nanostructures’ size and depending on the relation Hg:HDT, we obtained a mixture of alpha and beta HgS which can be advantageous in the application in solar cells, due their absorption in different spectral regions. The smallest nanostructures obtained have a mean diameter of 20 nm when using HDT as capping agent. Also, we deposited the aforementioned nanostructures onto flat glass substrates by the spin coating technique as a first approach of an active layer of a solar cell. The depositions were characterized by atomic force microscopy. We obtained smaller particle deposition and higher particle density -but a lower area coverage (5%) – in samples with HDT as capping agent. This work presents promising results on nanostructures for future application on hybrid solar cells. Further efforts will be focused on the deposition of organic-inorganic layers.

Background: The goal of this study was to develop an in vivo-in vitro (IVIV) correlation, both in men and women, which allows constructing a model to predict bioequivalence assessments for drugs with narrow absorption windows. Besides, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic equivalences were also investigated. Furosemide was chosen as a prototype. Methods: Twelve healthy Caucasian volunteers (8 women and 4 men) participated in a relative bioavailability study. Two oral formulations [Lasix® (Reference, R) and Furosemide EFA® (Test, T)] were administered under fasting conditions. Urinary excretion of unchanged drug (PK), and of chloride, sodium and potassium (PD) wasmonitored throughout time. PK and PD parameters were calculated from each respective excretion rate versus time curve. In vitro dissolution testing of both formulations was carried out using the USP apparatus 2 and 4 with fixed and variable dissolution media. Results: T and R could be considered bioequivalent since the 90% confidence intervals for the T/R ratio of geometric means for the area under the urinary drug excretion rate versus time curve and for the maximum excretion rate were within the 0.80-1.25 bioequivalence interval. However, T had faster initial absorption and higher levels in women, while R displayed such characteristics in men. Closer IVIV correlations in women were obtained when apparatus 4 with variable biorelevant dissolution media were used [going from fasting state simulated gastric fluid to fasting state simulated intestinal fluid]. Since R had faster disintegration time than T, a shorter stay of R under gastric conditions was required in order to obtain a good IVIV correlation in men. Saluretic effect displayed a typical clockwise hysteresis loop for the PKPD correlation assessed through chloride-versus-furosemide urinary excretion rates. Even though a higher amount of furosemide was excreted with the urine in men, differences in the excretion of electrolytes between sexes were almost negligible. Conclusions: Sex-differences in the gastrointestinal transit of formulations, under fasting conditions, determined the extent and the rate of furosemide absorption. The prolongation of the absorption process by mean of slowing the gastric emptying would make the formulation more effective. The USP-4 apparatus with variable dissolution media was able to discriminate the formulations even between sexes, becoming a promissory in vitro dissolution testing to predict bioequivalence.

The specific and sensitive detection of peroxynitrite (ONOO−/ONOOH) in biological systems is a great challenge due to its high reactivity towards several biomolecules. Herein, we validated the advantages of using fluorescein-boronate (Fl-B) as a highly sensitive fluorescent probe for the direct detection of peroxynitrite under biologically-relevant conditions in two different cell models. The synthesis of Fl-B was achieved by a very simply two-step conversion synthetic route with high purity (>99%) and overall yield (∼42%). Reactivity analysis of Fl-B with relevant biological oxidants including hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and peroxynitrite were performed. The rate constant for the reaction of peroxynitrite with Fl-B was 1.7×106 M−1 s−1, a million times faster than the rate constant measured for H2O2 (k=1.7 M−1 s−1) and 2,700 faster than HOCl (6.2×102 M−1 s−1) at 37 °C and pH 7.4. The reaction of Fl-B with peroxynitrite was significant even in the presence of physiological concentrations of CO2, a well-known peroxynitrite reactant. Experimental and simulated kinetic analyses confirm that the main oxidation process of Fl-B takes place with peroxynitrite itself via a direct bimolecular reaction and not with peroxynitrite-derived radicals. Fl-B was successfully applied for the detection of endogenously-generated peroxynitrite by endothelial cells and in macrophage-phagocyted parasites. Moreover, the generated data allowed estimating the actual intracellular flux of peroxynitrite. For instance, ionomycin-stimulated endothelial cells generated peroxynitrite at a rate of ∼ 0.1 μM s−1, while immunostimulated macrophages do so in the order of ∼1 μM s−1 inside T. cruzi-infected phagosomes. Fl-B revealed not to be toxic in concentrations up to 1 mM for 24 h. Cellular peroxynitrite detection was achieved by conventional laboratory fluorescence-based methods including flow cytometry and epi-fluorescence microscopy. Fl-B was shown to be more sensitive than the coumarin boronate due to a higher molar absorption coefficient and quantum yield. Overall, our results show that Fl-B is a kinetically selective and highly sensitive probe for the direct detection of cell-derived peroxynitrite.

The association of tungsten(VI) and molybdenum(VI) oxyanions with metal cations was investigated under conditions simulating those prevailing in most natural waters. Potentiometric titrations were carried out for the systems containing tungsten(VI) or molybdenum(VI) anions and metal cations. The selection includes the major metal cations and some other ions of high environmental relevance. At neutral and basic pH values, in the presence of the most abundant metal cations, ionic pair species such as [Ca(WO4)] or [Ca(MoO4)] are formed to high extents. For the acidic pH range, polyoxoanion associations with cations are also found but are only relevant for tungsten(VI) in the conditions of the natural aquatic systems. The present results provide the basis for studying W(VI) and Mo(VI) speciation in natural aquatic systems, on which the environmental fate, bioavailability and toxicity of the elements depend.

Yeast had participated with humans in food fermentation since the production of wine and bread, more than 10,000 years of shared history. It is well understood that fungi diversity is still underestimated and that we are far from understanding its importance and potential impact in biotechnology. Flavor compounds as “secondary metabolism” are very sensitive to fermentation conditions and mixed cultures, and although we had experience an exponential development of molecular biology in the last 30 years, metabolomics is still in its infancy. It was demonstrated in recent years that increase strain and species yeast diversity in a fermentation system increases sensory complexity and chemical aroma compound diversity in the final fermented product. Flavor compounds had many key functions for yeast, such as for survival and dispersion strategies, pheromone and defense mechanisms, and “quorum sensing” mechanisms for cell communication. Humans had taken advantage of many of these functions to increase taste and food sensory pleasure for a more exigent consumer, a phenomenon called “yeast domestication.” We focus this chapter mainly in the recent discussed yeast synthetic pathways for the formation of phenylpropanoid and terpenoid aroma compounds.

La globalización del comercio de alimentos ha crecido sustancialmente durante las últimas décadas, y continuará creciendo en décadas futuras. Esto conlleva importantes beneficios sociales y económicos, pero también implica que las empresas de la cadena alimentaria tengan cada vez más exigencias sobre los niveles de calidad e inocuidad que esperan los consumidores de los productos que se ofrecen. En el comercio del vino, el cliente o consumidor generalmente es más exigente respecto a atributos de calidad que de inocuidad o el aporte nutricional que pueda darle el vino; estos atributos son: presencia de los parámetros sensoriales que le son de su agrado, ausencia de defectos, precio, presentación e imagen país. Incluso respecto a la información que pueda tener la etiqueta sobre el vino. En este sentido, en muchos países del “Nuevo Mundo”, aún esta en discusión cuáles serían los mecanismos y metodologías que habría que seguir, para poder construir una imagen que consolide la reputación de las diferentes regiones vitícolas, en este mercado tan competitivo. Por otra parte, la tecnología disponible para la producción, manufactura, envasado y distribución de alimentos ha evolucionado a escalas sorprendentes en estos últimos años. Esta evolución tecnológica trajo aparejado el desarrollo de técnicas de control sobre prácticas de procesamiento e higiene que contribuyen a dar garantía al consumidor sobre la oferta de productos constantemente inocuos y con la calidad requerida. Muchas técnicas de control son voluntarias y el productor las elige como forma de “comunicarle” al consumidor que sus productos cuentan con atributos diferenciadores asociados al sistema de control dado. Estas técnicas o sistemas de control son ejecutadas por organismos independientes a las empresas productoras o elaboradoras, llamados organismos de evaluación de la conformidad. Estos verifican que el producto o el proceso cumple los atributos referidos en un documento dado, y dicho cumplimiento el elaborador puede comunicarlo con la presentación de un sello o marca de conformidad, generalmente incluida en la etiqueta del producto o material promocional del mismo, dependiendo del caso. Elaboración de un protocolo que defina atributos diferenciales para vinos Tannat uruguayos de exportación 7 En el mundo del vino, la denominación de origen ha sido una herramienta comercial utilizada por los productores vitivinícolas del “Viejo Mundo” como forma de diferenciar sus productos. Se trata de la indicación geográfica o el origen geográfico de un vino, cuyos atributos se deben principalmente al medio geográfico en el cual se produjo la materia prima, se transformó y finalmente se obtuvo el vino. Los productores que se apegan a la denominación de origen deben cumplir con los requisitos especificados y mantener los métodos tradicionales de producción asociados a cada región en cuestión. La ventaja que obtiene el consumidor al adquirir un producto con denominación de origen definida, es contar con cierta garantía que el producto cumple con determinados atributos, de forma relativamente constante lote a lote. Esto facilita que los vinos elaborados en dichas regiones, accedan a mercados exigentes locales e internacionales. La variedad Tannat para Uruguay es la variedad insignia en un mercado internacional exigente para vinos de alta gamma. Esta variedad representa actualmente la cuarta parte del total de las plantaciones del país, y en Uruguay existen viñedos en cantidades aun mayores que en su tierra originaria (suroeste de Francia). Con el correr de los años, las bodegas uruguayas han sabido elaborar vinos Tannat de reserva, con crianza en barricas de roble, logrando una mejor expresión de la variedad. Sin embargo, la competitividad internacional de los productores vitivinícolas uruguayos ha sido históricamente difícil de lograr, debido fundamentalmente a su estrategia de producir vinos destinados al mercado interno, a pesar de contar con una capacidad de producción suficiente como para poder cumplir las exigencias de ambos destinos. Este trabajo busca caracterizar los vinos que hoy en día se comercializan en mercados exigentes, de modo de entender cuales son los atributos del producto preferidos por los consumidores del vino Tannat, y así focalizar esfuerzos en producir vinos orientados a dichos atributos. Los mercados destino cuyas exigencias fueron consideradas son EE.UU. y Brasil, países destino del vino Tannat uruguayo de exportación por excelencia. Elaboración de un protocolo que defina atributos diferenciales para vinos Tannat uruguayos de exportación 8 Se tomaron muestras de 10 vinos Tannat uruguayos de exportación, pertenecientes a distintas bodegas uruguayas exportadoras (algunas referentes por la calidad de sus vinos Tannat y los volúmenes exportados, y otras emergentes en materia de exportación de vinos Tannat), y se estudiaron los aspectos químicos y sensoriales que caracterizan a estos vinos exportados. El perfil de componentes volátiles se analizó mediante extracción en fase sólida y análisis por cromatografía gaseosa acoplada a masa (GC-MS). A través de este análisis se identificaron y cuantificaron componentes aromáticos de origen varietal, pre fermentativo, fermentativo, y derivados de la crianza en barrica. Conjuntamente se realizó una evaluación sensorial con consumidores a través de un mapeo proyectivo, del cual se logró obtener también una serie de descriptores aromáticos planteados por el panel, característicos de la variedad Tannat. Asimismo, se realizó una serie de análisis fisicoquímicos clásicos (índice de polifenoles totales, antocianos totales, intensidad colorante y matiz). Con esta información obtenida y antecedentes nacionales e internacionales del sector en cuanto al proceso de elaboración de vinos finos, se propone un “Protocolo de calidad” que define atributos de un vino uruguayo Tannat, de calidad superior, su proceso de elaboración y su proceso de envasado. El objetivo de este protocolo propuesto es brindarles a los bodegueros exportadores de vinos finos Tannat una herramienta adicional para la obtención de productos de calidad diferencial, y asegurar un constante cumplimiento de la conformidad del producto en sucesivas producciones. Asimismo, se propone una metodología de evaluación de dichos protocolos. Las ventajas de la aplicación de esta herramienta son discutidas en las conclusiones de este trabajo. La variabilidad interindividual en la respuesta y toxicidad a tratamientos es un problema muy común y serio, que causa preocupación y puede ser responsable de la reducción de la dosis o discontinuación del tratamiento. La Farmacogenética busca predecir dicha variabilidad, mediante el análisis y uso de la información genética individual o poblacional. El metotrexate(MTX), análogo estructural del ácido fólico, ha sido un fármaco altamente efectivo en tratamientos oncológicos y autoinmunes. Sin embargo presenta una gran variabilidad interindividual en su respuesta farmacológica y toxicidad. Una de las causas de dicha variabilidad es la existencia de polimorfismos en los genes que codifican proteínas transportadoras y dianas del MTX. El objetivo general de este trabajo fue contribuir al conocimiento para un diseño de una terapia personalizada con MTX. Como forma de realizar una aproximación a una vía tan compleja, desde el ingreso del MTX hasta su blanco de acción en la célula, nos propusimos evaluar la distribución y analizar la asociación entre la toxicidad y eficacia del tratamiento y los polimorfismos en los genes que codifican para los transportadores: de folato reducido (SLC19A1) G80A y de solutos de aniones orgánicos de la familia 1B1 (SLCO1B1) T521C; así como también en los genes que codifican para las enzimas involucradas en la actividad del MTX: 5,10- metilentetrahidrofolato reductasa (MTHFR) C677T y A1298C, variación en el número de copias de 28 pb en el gen timidilato sintasa (TYMS) y dihidrofolato reductasa (DHFR) C- 1610G/T, C-680A, A-317G y el polimorfismo que consiste en una inserción deleción de 19 pb. El grupo de estudio consistió en 41 pacientes adultos uruguayos con leucemia linfoide aguda (LLA) y linfoma no-Hodgkin (LNH) agresivo tratados con un protocolo de poliquimioterapia que incluyera mediana y/o altas dosis de MTX y en un grupo control de 55 adultos uruguayos voluntarios sanos. De dichos pacientes se relevaron los parámetros clínicos y de laboratorio obtenidos del seguimiento de la terapia.

El aceite de oliva virgen es el zumo oleoso de las aceitunas que se separa de los demás componentes del fruto. Cuando se obtiene por sistemas de elaboración adecuados y procede de frutos frescos de buena calidad, sin defectos ni alteraciones, y con la adecuada madurez, el aceite posee excepcionales características organolépticas. Es prácticamente el único entre los aceites vegetales que puede consumirse crudo, conservando íntegra su composición en ácidos grasos y el contenido en componentes menores, de elevada importancia saludable-nutricional, destacando el contenido en vitaminas liposolubles y polifenoles (Alba, 2008). Los lípidos son nutrientes necesarios ya que proveen al organismo de energía, de ácidos grasos esenciales (linoleico y linolénico) y esteroides precursores de hormonas, entre otros compuestos de interés, que ayudan a mantener la temperatura corporal y participan en el recambio celular (Valenzuela y Morgado, 2005) En la actualidad Uruguay consume poco aceite de oliva virgen y se pretende aumentarlo, sobretodo el consumo nacional, aunque a nivel mundial existe la tendencia del aumento de dicho consumo. Hay varias causas que justifican dicho aumento, entre las que más se destaca es el deseo de la población por consumir productos saludables. Uruguay quiere caracterizar sus aceites de oliva vírgenes para competir internamente con los aceites extranjeros y para poder exportarlos con perfil propio; algo ya se ha hecho porque se han ganado premios en diferentes concursos a nivel internacional; es por esos postulados que se pretende caracterizar los AOV y ver qué zonas hay que potenciar. La caracterización se realizaría tanto en forma sensorial como química: por estudio del perfil de ácidos grasos y del contenido de antioxidantes. El objetivo general de esta Tesis es el estudio de aceites de oliva vírgenes, variedades Arbequina y Picual, obtenidos a partir de aceitunas provenientes de dos zonas geográficas diferentes del país, con distintos índices de madurez, durante tres cosechas, años 2011, 2012 y 2013 y el estudio de la percepción del consumidor uruguayo sobre el aceite de oliva virgen. 7 Para la escritura de dicha tesis primero se exponen los estudios químicos realizados a los aceites de oliva vírgenes extraídos, luego los estudios sensoriales obtenidos por medio de jueces sensoriales realizados a los mismos aceites y por último los estudios realizados con consumidores de la percepción del consumidor uruguayo sobre el aceite de oliva virgen. Según los resultados de los análisis tanto químicos como sensoriales realizados a todos los aceites de oliva vírgenes estudiados en esta Tesis se concluye que los mismos pertenecen a la categoría aceite de oliva virgen extra ya que cumplieron los requisitos establecidos en la legislación.

Los medicamentos que contienen el mismo principio activo se ofrecen en el mercado farmacéutico como “similares” o como “alternativas farmacéuticas”. Dentro de los primeros se hallan los que originalmente se comercializaron como innovaciones y los que luego de un tiempo aparecieron como copias. Entre los segundos encontramos aquellos que contienen diferentes ingredientes que rinden el mismo principio activo, y aquellos que conteniendo el mismo ingrediente lo vehiculizan en diferentes formas farmacéuticas. Tanto pacientes como prescriptores se encuentran frente ofertas de similares cuyas biodisponibilidades relativas son desconocidas en nuestro país, en virtud de que la evaluación de las mismas quedó relegada por años, y aunque actualmente existe una base regulatoria [1] que intenta subsanar este rezago, el proceso de su elucidación sigue un curso demasiado lento
