Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Since the beginning of the past century, quinoxaline 1,4-dioxide and phenazine 5,10-dioxide derivatives have been known to be potent bioactive compounds. Maybe the most relevant reported biological property has been their ability to act as bioreductive agents, selective cytotoxins against hypoxic cells; moreover, other significant activities have been identified, such as promotion-growth ability, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasite, cytotoxic, as well as herbicide properties. Structure-activity relationship studies have been performed and important findings have been described. On the other hand, specific side effects for these compounds have been studied and identified being the most relevant mutagenic and clastogenic properties. These kinds of compounds have been also reported as components in the material sciences. This chapter includes old and more recent methods of synthesis of quinoxaline 1,4-dioxide and phenazine 5,10-dioxide derivatives, chemical and biological reactivity, biological properties and mode of action, structure-activity studies and other relevant chemical and biological properties.

A summary of the resource.
Introduction: Quinoxaline scaffold is included in a large number of therapeutic agents because of its physicochemical properties that make the difference between them and the carbono analogue, naphthalene. Areas covered: This review of patented products presents the quinoxaline 10 heterocycle as part of the structural patent claims from a medicinal chemistry perspective. Expert opinion: We centred our discussion in the various drug patent applications of the quinoxaline and its derivatives. The applications are based firstly in the specific enzyme target with very low development in the disease 15 treatment. Only for cancer and antimicrobial agents they were specifically determined but little is mentioned in order to insight in the last development activities.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Quinoxaline derivatives presented good inhibitor activity of growth of Trypanosoma cruzi in in vitro assays. The 50% inhibitory doses were of the same order of that of Nifurtimox. Derivative 13, a quinoxaline N,N0-dioxide derivative, and the reduced derivatives 19 and 20 were the most cytotoxic compounds against the protozoan. Structural requirements for optimal activity were studied by computational methods. From statistical analysis we could establish a multiple correlation between activity and lipophilic properties and LUMO energy.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Radiometals have become increasingly important because of their use both for diagnostic molecular imaging and therapy in Nuclear Medicine. The focus is on the study of biochemical processes at cellular and sub-cellular level in order to detect metabolic abnormalities associated with various diseases. For that purpose, molecules that selectively accumulate in the organ or tissue of interest by a specific mechanism such as receptor binding or interaction with biomolecules are labeled with 99mTc, 68Ga, 153Sm, 186/188Re, 177Lu, among others and used as radiopharmaceuticals. However, considerable effort is necessary to combine these radionuclides with biomolecules relevant to different pathological conditions. Intensive research on the coordination chemistry of these metals has led to novel labeling methods that yield stable compounds which retained the original biological activity of the ligand. Chemical aspects and clinical applications will be reviewed in this paper.

Extration washout and chemical integrity of technetium(I) hexakis(2-carbomethoxy-2-isocyanopropane) |b (99mTc-CPI) were evaluated in isolated contractile rat atrial tissue. The observations in these rat atrial tissue help explain the interspecies differences in biodistribution of 99mTc-CPI and support the membrane potential dependent model for uptake and retention of technetium isonitrile complexes.

A Gram-stain-positive bacterium, strain LZ-22T, was isolated from a rhizosphere of moss Leptobryum sp. collected at the shore of Lake Zub in Antarctica. Cells were motile, straight or pleomorphic rods with sizes of 0.6-1.0×3.5-10 µm. The novel isolate was a facultatively anaerobic, catalase-positive, psychrotolerant mesophile. Growth was observed at 3-41 °C (optimum 24-28 °C), with 0-7 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 0.25 %) and at pH 4.0-9.0 (optimum pH 7.8). The quinone system of strain LZ-22T possessed predominately menaquinone MK-9(H4). The genomic G+C content was 70.2 mol%. Strain 10J was isolated from a biofilm of sediment microbial fuel cell, in Uruguay and had 99 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to strain LZ-22T. DNA-DNA-hybridization values of 84 % confirmed that both strains belonged to the same species. Both strains grew on sugars, proteinaceous compounds, and some amino- and organic acids. Strain LZ-22T uniquely grew on D-enantiomers of histidine and valine while neglecting growth on L-enantiomers. Both strains were sensitive to most of the tested antibiotics but resistant to tested nitrofurans and sulfanilamides. Phylogenetic analyses of the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the strains were related to members of the family Propionibacteriaceae (~93-94 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity) with formation of a separate branch within the radiation of the genera Granulicoccus and Luteococcus. Based on phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, we propose the affiliation of both strains into a novel species of a new genus. The name Raineyella antarctica gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed for the novel taxon with the type strain LZ-22T (=ATCC TSD-18T=DSM 100494T=JCM 30886T).

In this report, we studied Raman and impedance spectroscopy under applied dc bias for poly(vinyl carbazole):titania quantum dots (PVK:TiO2-QDs) nanocomposites to understand the electrical transport in this donor:acceptor system as promising active layer materials for polymeric solar cells. The nanocomposites were synthesized using a novel strategy involving the sol–gel method via in situ water vapor flow diffusion in the polymer host leading to ∼3–8 nm TiO2 quantum dots embedded in PVK with excellent homogeneity. Raman spectroscopy was used to monitor the presence of charge carriers in the organic semiconductor for PVK:TiO2-QDs with different TiO2 quantum dots compositions with and without applied dc voltage. The joint study of confocal Raman spectroscopy supported by theoretical simulations together with impedance spectroscopy under applied dc voltage could give us a major approach to understand the electrical transport mechanism of these hybrid donor:acceptor nanocomposites.

In the present report, we focused on the study of the out-of-plane electrical transport of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-doped poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) composites (PEDOT:PSS-MWCNTs) as electrodes for solar cell applications. The out-of-plane direct current and alternating current electrical transport, rarely studied but not less relevant, was additionally supported with in-plane and out-of-plane confocal Raman microscopy and grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering characterizations. The main relevance of our study is the monitoring of the polymer structure all across the polymeric film by using confocal Raman spectroscopy and its correlation with electrical transport. Modifications in the PEDOT benzenoid and quinoid conformations were observed in the vicinities of MWCNTs, and the enrichment of PSS at the indium tin oxide electrode interface was also evidenced. In consequence, the low MWCNT loadings into PEDOT:PSS lead to an increase of the out-of-plane conductivity, but the heavier MWCNT loadings lead to a drastic decrease. The tuning of the doping level of these polymer composites and the understanding of the interface structure are crucial to fabricate electrodes with higher out-of-plane conductivities for organic solar cell applications.

A study of the Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction on Cu2MnGeS4 magnetic quaternary semiconductor compound with wurtz-stannite-type structure (space group Pmn21) has been done. By considering group theory analysis and by comparing the Raman lines with those obtained from far infrared measurements found in the literature, as well as with experimental and calculated lines for Cu2ZnGeS4, a tentative symmetry assignment of the Raman lines observed for has also been made. The five strongest Raman lines observed at 355, 296, 308, 388 and 408 cm�1 have been assigned to sulphurrelated A1-symmetry modes, and at 170 and 260 cm�1 to the Mn-related A1 modes. Also, lines at 98, 105 and 150 cm�1 are assigned to A2-, B1-, and Mn-related B2-symmetry modes, respectively. In addition, weak lines at 124, 208 and 238 cm�1 were assigned to the orthorhombic GeS secondary phase.

<p>It is widely accepted that the use of alkyl zinc and alkyl zinc alkoxide precursors are usually preferred instead of the popularly used zinc acetate precursor to obtaining better control on the synthesis of different zinc-oxo clusters and nanostructures. However, there are very few reports about zinc dialkoxides precursors and not many ones studying these precursors in a typical hydrolysiscondensation route. In the present report, we focus on the study of zinc dimethoxide structural features and their Raman spectroscopy signatures in the absence and presence of tetrahydrofuran (THF) adduct. Our theoretical calculations using Density Functional Theory (DFT) reveal that monomeric, dimeric and trimeric zinc dimethoxide exhibit distinctive Raman signatures, particularly at the low frequency region. In addition, some particular vibrational modes of zinc dimethoxide also evidenced some characteristic shifting and splitting in the presence of explicit THF coordination molecules. Our experimental approach using<br />surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) reveals a quite complex combination of Raman signatures associated to zinc<br />dimethoxide clusters corroborating tetrahydrofuran coordination and further early hydrolysis-condensation scenario. We aim to<br />shed some light on the chemical structure of this particular zinc dimethoxide precursor and some of its early hydrolysis condensation products employing a powerful, popular and versatile technique such as Raman spectroscopy as it can be a<br />promising candidate to access and simultaneously monitor the formation of novel zinc-oxo clusters and nanostructures.</p>

Ectrum of Cu2CdSnSe4 quaternary semiconductor compounds with tetragonal stannite-type structure (space group I 4¯2m), a material which has been recognized recently as a potential candidate for thermoelectric applications, has been studied. Most of the fourteen Raman lines expected for this compound according to group theory analysis were observed in the spectrum. Besides to the two strongest A1-symmetry stannite modes at 172 and 192cm−1 originated from the motion of Se anion around the Cu and Sn cations which remain at rest, the leftover observed Raman lines were tentatively assigned to specific eigenmodes of the stannite crystal structure by comparing these line frequencies with those obtained for this compound from IR measurements as well as with those calculated Raman modes for the Cu2ZnSnSe4 stannite-compound reported in the literature. Two spurious Raman lines related to the presence in this compound of SnSe and SnSe2 minority secondary phases have also been found in the Raman spectrum.
