Lonar Lake is a unique saline and alkaline ecosystem formed by meteor impact in the Deccan basalts in India around 52,000 years ago. To investigate the role of methylotrophy in the cycling of carbon in this unusual environment, stable-isotope probing (SIP) was carried out using the one-carbon compounds methane, methanol and methylamine. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis fingerprinting analyses performed with heavy (13)C-labelled DNA retrieved from sediment microcosms confirmed the enrichment and labelling of active methylotrophic communities. Clone libraries were constructed using PCR primers targeting 16S rRNA genes and functional genes. Methylomicrobium, Methylophaga and Bacillus spp. were identified as the predominant active methylotrophs in methane, methanol and methylamine SIP microcosms, respectively. Absence of mauA gene amplification in the methylamine SIP heavy fraction also indicated that methylamine metabolism in Lonar Lake sediments may not be mediated by the methylamine dehydrogenase enzyme pathway. Many gene sequences retrieved in this study were not affiliated with extant methanotrophs or methylotrophs. These sequences may represent hitherto uncharacterized novel methylotrophs or heterotrophic organisms that may have been cross-feeding on methylotrophic metabolites or biomass. This study represents an essential first step towards understanding the relevance of methylotrophy in the soda lake sediments of an unusual impact crater structure

Aptamers, oligonucleotides with the capability to bind to a target through non-covalent bonds with high affinity and specificity, have a great number of advantages as scaffold to prepare molecular imaging agents. In this sense, we have performed post-SELEX modifications of a truncated aptamer, Sgc8-c, which bind to protein tyrosine kinase 7 to obtain a specific molecular targeting probe for in vivo diagnosis and in vivo therapy. Herein, we describe the synthetic efforts to prepare conjugates between Sgc8-c and different metallic ions chelator moieties in short times, high purities, and adequate yields. The selected chelator moieties, derived from 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid, 2-benzyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane-1,4,7-triacetic acid, and 6-hydrazinonicotinic acid, were covalently attached at the 5'-aptamer position yielding the expected products which were stable in aqueous solution up to 75°C and in typical aptamer storage conditions at least for 30 days.

Background: Aptamers represent an emerging class of oligonucleotides that have the ability to bind ligands with high affinity. Sgc8-c aptamer recognizes PTK7, a member of the catalytically defective receptor protein tyrosine kinase family that is upregulated in various cancers, including hemato-oncological malignancies. Herein, an Sgc8-c-NOTA-radiolabeled probe was prepared for theranostic purpose. Materials and Methods: In this work, an Sgc8-c-radiolabeled probe against PTK7 was prepared, and biological evaluations—pharmacokinetic studies, biodistribution analysis, and in vivo molecular imaging—were performed. To obtain the radiolabeled probe, a modified 5′-amino-derivative of the Sgc8-c aptamer was bound to the metal chelator NOTA, and subsequently labeled with 67Ga with high yield and radiochemical purity. The precursor, Sgc8-c-NOTA, the radio probe Sgc8-c-NOTA-67Ga, and its nonradioactive complex, Sgc8-c-NOTA-69/71Ga, were purified by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The binding ability of Sgc8-c-NOTA-67Ga was studied in vitro against purified PTK7 receptor. In addition, the binding was also evidenced against the hemato-oncological A20 cell line, derived from B lymphocytes, and the corresponding A20-green fluorescent protein (GFP)-transfected cells. The proof of concept was performed on A20-GFP tumor-bearing mice, in which the biodistribution of the radiolabeled probe was evaluated through imaging, using X-ray, fluorescence, and γ modalities. The specific uptake of the probe was confirmed by blocking with the Sgc8-c aptamer in an in vivo competition assay. Results: The biodistribution results showed considerable uptake in tumor since 2 h, with highest at 48 h postinjection. However, the blood and muscle ID/g (injected dose per gram of tissue) activities were decreasing with time and tumor/no-target ratios increasing to 20 at 24 h postinjection. These results are consistent with the in vivo images. Conclusions: This study supports the utility of Sgc8-c-NOTA radiolabeled as a theranostic agent.

In this paper we report a new variety of dinuclear cyanobridged CoIII/MII (M = Fe or Ru) mixed-valent complexes of the general formula [LnCoIII(μ-NC)MII(CN)x(bpy)y]z+ (where Ln represents a pentaamine macrocycle and M = Fe or Ru with x = 4, y = 1 and z = 1 or x = 2, y = 2 and z = 3)]. The incorporation of the bpy ligand in place of cyano ligands within the coordination sphere raises the MIII/II redox potential significantly relative to the hexacyanometalate analogswe have reported previously. However, the metal-to-metal (MII to CoIII) charge-transfer transitions are shifted to lower energies in accordance with Hush theory as a result of a decreased reorganizational energy component, which result in them overlapping with more intense MLCT (MII to bpy) transitions.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Trans-[Co(NH3)4(NH2CH3)(CH3)2 SO]3+ and trans-[Co(NH3)4(NH2CH3)(CH3) NCHO]3+ ions are prepared by Ag+-induced solvolysis of trans-[Co(NH3)4(NH2 CH3)X]2+ (X = Cl or Br) complexes in dimethylsulphoxide or dimethylformamide. The complexes were characterized by electronic, IR and 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Both, dimethylsulphoxide and dimethylformamide are bonded through the oxygen atom. The trans-complexes obtained are not contaminated with the cis-isomers.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
The preparation of trans-[Co(NH3)4(CH3NH2)Br]2+ and trans-[Co(NH3)4(CH3NH2)-(NO3)]2+ complexes is described. The UV-VIS spectra of the complexes indicate a decrease of the ligand field compared to the parent pentaammines. Infrared spectra match with the pattern of the corresponding pentaammines. The catalyzed (by Hg2+) aquation of the trans-bromomethylamine complex go under retention of the stereochemical configuration. The base hydrolysis (studied at 25°C) products show trans to cis rearrangement for both complexes. 1H NMR spectroscopy is used for identification of the stereochemical configuration of the compounds.

Many reports state the potential hazards of microplastics (MPs) and their implications to wildlife and human health. The presence of MP in the aquatic environment is related to several origins but particularly associated to their occurrence in wastewater effluents. The determination of MP in these complex samples is a challenge. Current analytical procedures for MP monitoring are based on separation and counting by visual observation or mediated with some type of microscopy with further identification by techniques such as Raman or Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. In this work, a simple alternative for the separation, counting and identification of MP in wastewater samples is reported. The presented sample preparation technique with further polarized light optical microscopy (PLOM) observation positively identified the vast majority of MP particles occurring in wastewater samples of Montevideo, Uruguay, in the 70–600 μm range. MPs with different shapes and chemical composition were identified by PLOM and confirmed by confocal Raman microscopy. Rapid identification of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were evidenced. A major limitation was found in the identification of MP from non-birefringent polymers such as PVC (polyvinylchloride). The proposed procedure for MP analysis in wastewater is easy to be implemented at any analytical laboratory. A pilot monitoring of Montevideo WWTP effluents was carried out over 3-month period identifying MP from different chemical identities in the range 5.3–8.2 × 103 MP items/m3.

Synthesis of nanoparticles free from toxic chemicals and solvents is highly seen for large-scale production processes, particularly for use in biomedical/biotechnological applications. So far, although several methods for synthesis of metal nanoparticles using citrus extracts have been described, none of them clarify which compounds are responsible for both reduction and stabilization of NPs. Here we report the role of citrus flavonoids, hesperidin, hesperetin, rutin, naringenin, quercetin and diosmin, in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNP) at room temperature. Only in the presence of the citrus flavonoids, diosmin (Dm), and hesperetin (Ht), the reduction of HAuCl4 in concentrations as high as 7 mM under alkaline conditions yielded concentrated and self-stabilized suspensions of uniform spherical nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution. We went further and focused on Ht, the most abundant flavonoid aglycone from citrus fruits known for its medicinal properties. HtAuNPs were characterized using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The NPs remained stable for months without significant changes in their shape and optical properties. Theoretical calculations using density functional theory were used to identify the functional groups involved in the electron transfer from the Ht molecules to gold, which seems to be the consequence of an initial complexation, leading to the reduction of Au3+ ions into Au0. Besides, this procedure provides a one-pot method, showing potential for large-scale.

La producción de biodiésel mediante la reacción de transesterificación (único proceso tecnológicamente maduro a la fecha para ese propósito) genera simultáneamente como subproducto glicerol en relación aproximadamente 9:1 en masa. La evolución positiva que en los últimos años ha presentado la producción de este biocombustible a nivel global ha desencadenado la introducción de volúmenes inmanejables para el mercado del glicerol, presionando fuertemente a la baja su precio. Este hecho -de no encontrarse una soluciónamenaza impactar en la sustentabilidad ambiental y económica del biodiésel. La búsqueda de alternativas a esta sobreproducción de glicerol ha sido un desafío atendido por la comunidad científica internacional desarrollándose múltiples estrategias (desde la búsqueda de nuevas aplicaciones que permitan su uso directo, el uso enproductos masivos que lo demanden como insumo, así como la búsqueda de síntesis de productos que impliquen agregado de valor a este co-producto). El presente trabajo se inscribe dentro de esta última alternativa proponiendo la valorización del glicerol a través de su biotransformación en 1,2-propanodiol enantioméricamente puro y su posterior derivatización obteniéndose sintones quirales con aplicación en química fina. Recurriendo a ingeniería metabólica en E. coli se handiseñado, construido y evaluado un conjunto de biocatalizadores con ese objetivo. A partir de la expresión de la metilglioxal sintasa (mgs) de E. coli,una metilglioxal reductasa (Gre2p) y una aldehído reductasa(Ypr1p ) ambas de S. cerevisiae,se ha logrado obtener (R)-1,2-propanodiol enantioméricamente puro (con un e.e. > 99 %, en concentración de 0,45 g/L)a partir de glicerol. Esteproducto, además de constituir una alternativa de valorización en sí mismo es punto de partida para otros compuestos de elevado valor agregado,entre ellos, en el presente trabajo se ha logrado la síntesis química del (R)-2-metoxi metoxi-1-propanoly de (R)- propilencarbonato

A summary of the resource.
The first experimental vaccine against Alzheimer's disease caused encephalitis in some patients, which led to termination of the clinical trial and dealt a serious blow to this therapeutic approach. With second-generation vaccines that are likely to circumvent this side effect, this type of therapy remains promising, although more extensive animal studies are likely to be required before approval of other clinical trials. Another potential side effect, microhemorrhages within the brain vasculature, has been observed in mouse models following passive immunization, but has not been assessed in reports of active vaccination. Together, these serious adverse reactions emphasize the need to test potential Alzheimer's immunotherapy in large cohorts of primate models prior to, or at least concurrently with, human trials, as no effective therapy exists for the disease.

Se desarrollaron y optimizaron herramientas para la implementación de la trazabilidad al sistema internacional de mediciones analíticas orgánicas a nivel nacional, no disponibles hasta la fecha. Este trabajo constituye un aporte relevante a las actividades designadas al Instituto Nacional de Metrología uruguayo, con un enfoque principal hacia las áreas salud y ambiente. En primera instancia, se trabajó sobre la determinación de creatinina en suero humano mediante el método primario de dilución isotópica con espectrometría de masas. Para obtener resultados metrológicamente trazables, se optimizó un método primario (basado en uno de referencia), permitiendo la obtención de resultados de alta veracidad con mayor eficiencia de uso de recursos. En la segunda parte de este trabajo, se desarrolló una estrategia para la determinación de pureza de compuestos orgánicos con el objetivo de generar patrones primarios. Se estudió la pureza de una muestra purificada de ficocianobilina para desarrollar un estándar cuya potencial aplicación sería la calibración de sensores para la determinación de cianobacterias en muestras acuáticas. Esta muestra purificada mostró un elevado grado de impurezas, que, combinado con la no disponibilidad comercial de sus respectivos estándares, resultó en una gran dificultad para asignar un valor de pureza y una incertidumbre asociada adecuada. Se emplearon diversas técnicas analíticas, dentro de las cuales se destaca la cromatografía líquida y espectroscopía de resonancia magnética nuclear. El conocimiento científico generado, en base a una estrategia de trabajo como la utilizada, permitirá el desarrollo de patrones químicos primarios de una numerosa variedad de compuestos químicos orgánicos según las necesidades nacionales.

Antigen B (EgAgB) is a phosphatidylcholine (PC)-rich lipoprotein of Echinococcus granulosus s.l. larva, potentially capable of modulating the activation of various myeloid cells, including macrophages. As C-reactive protein (CRP) can act as an innate receptor with ability to bind the phosphocholine moiety of PC in lipoproteins, we investigated whether EgAgB and CRP could interact during cystic echinococcosis infection (CE), and how CRP binding could affect the modulation activities exerted by EgAgB on macrophages. To that end, we firstly investigated the occurrence of CRP induction during human CE. We found that 61% of CE patients, but none of healthy donors, exhibited serum CRP levels higher than 10 mg/mL, suggesting that CRP can be induced during the chronic phase of CE. Furthermore, human CRP was capable of binding specifically to EgAgB with high affinity (0.6 ± 0.1 nM); this binding was Ca2+ -dependent and involved the phosphocholine moiety of PC, but not EgAgB8/1, EgAgB8/2 or EgAgB8/3 apolipoproteins. Finally, CRP presence altered the modulation exerted by EgAgB on the cytokine response of LPS-activated macrophages. Overall, our results suggest that CRP presence during CE may contribute to a complex scenario of interactions between EgAgB and myeloid cells, influencing the cytokine response induced during macrophage activation.

Los métodos primarios constituyen el nivel jerárquico de medición más elevado debido a que permiten implementar la trazabilidad a las unidades del Sistema Internacional. El objetivo de este trabajo fue la optimización de un método primario para la determinación de creatinina en suero humano por dilución isotópica mediante cromatografía gaseosa acoplada a espectrometría de masa (GC – IDMS), adaptado de un método de referencia publicado en el Joint Committee for Traceability in Laboratory Medicine (JCTLM - BIPM). Se optimizaron factores vinculados a las etapas de equilibrado isotópico y derivatización. Para esto se realizó un diseño experimental de tres factores en dos niveles (diseño 23) y un análisis de varianza de un factor (ANOVA). Las respuestas evaluadas en el diseño experimental fueron la señal correspondiente a la creatinina, la eficiencia de derivatización, la relación de eficiencia de derivatización y el sesgo. El método propuesto, optimizado para las etapas de equilibrado isotópico y derivatización, presenta mayor eficiencia y simplicidad comparado con el método original, y cuenta con un sesgo adecuado al propósito. Luego de su validación podrá ser implementado para el desarrollo de herramientas de aseguramiento de la calidad de los laboratorios clínicos que realizan estas mediciones rutinariamente.

A summary of the resource.
Development of new antimicrobial agents, capable of combating resistant and multidrug-resistant fungal and bacterial clinical strains, is necessary. This study presents the synthesis and antimicrobial screening of 42 2-substituted-1,4-benzenediols, being 10 novel compounds. In total, 23 compounds showed activity against fungi and/or bacteria. Benzenediol compounds 2, 5, 6, 8, 11, and 12 demonstrated broad spectrum antimicrobial actions, including resistant and multidrug-resistant species of dermatophytes (Trichophyton mentagrophytes), Candida spp. and the ESKAPE panel of bacteria. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of these compounds for fungi and bacterial strains ranged from 25 to 50 µg/ml and 8–128 µg/ml, respectively. The antifungal mechanism of action is related to the fungal cell wall of dermatophytes and membrane disruption to dermatophytes and yeasts, in the presence of compound 8. Specific structural changes, such as widespread thinning along the hyphae and yeast lysis, were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The effects of compound 8 on cell viability are dose-dependent; however they did not cause genotoxicity and mutagenicity in human leukocyte cells nor haemolysis. Moreover, the compounds were identified as nonirritant by the ex-vivo Hen’s egg test-chorioallantoic membrane (HET-CAM). The furan-1,4-benzenediol compound 5 showed in vivo efficacy to combat S. aureus infection using embryonated chicken eggs. Therefore, the compounds 8, and 5 are promising as hits for the development of new antimicrobial drugs with reduced toxicity.

Disposal of biomass wastes, produced in diVerent agricultural activities, is frequently an environmental problem. A solution for such situation is the recycling of these residues for the production of activated carbon, an adsorbent which has several applications, for instance in the elimination of contaminants. For some uses, high mechanical strength and good adsorption characteristics are required. To achieve this, carbonaceous materials are conformed as pellets or briquettes, in a process that involves mixing and pressing of char with adhesive materials prior to activation. In this work, the inXuence of the operation conditions on the mechanical and surface properties of briquettes was studied. Eucalyptus wood and rice husk from Uruguay were used as lignocellulosic raw materials, and concentrated grape must from Cuyo Region–Argentina, as a binder. DiVerent wood:rice and solid:binder ratios were used to prepare briquettes in order to study their inXuence on mechanical and surface properties of the Wnal products.

An on-line preconcentration system for the simultaneous determination of Copper (Cu)<br />and manganese (Mn) in water samples was developed and coupled to a microwave-induced plasma optical emission spectrometer (MIP OES). The flow injection system was designed with a minicolumn packed with sisal fiber (Agave sisalana). A multivariate experimental design was performed to evaluate the influence of pH, preconcentration time, and eluent concentration. Optimal conditions for sample preparation were pH 5.5, preconcentration time was 90 s, and HCl 0.5 mol L-1 was the eluent. The main figures of merit were detection limits 3.7 and 9.0 �g L-1 for Cu and Mn, respectively.<br />Precision was expressed as a relative standard deviation better than 10%. Accuracy was evaluated<br />via spiked recovery assays with recoveries between 75–125%. The enrichment factor was 30 for<br />both analytes. These results were adequate for water samples analysis for monitoring purposes.<br />The preconcentration system was coupled and synchronized with the MIP OES nebulizer to allow<br />simultaneous determination of Cu and Mn as a novel sample introduction strategy. The sampling rate was 20 samples/h. Sisal fiber resulted an economical biosorbent for trace element preconcentration without extra derivatization steps and with an awfully time of use without replacement complying with the principles of green analytical methods.<br />

Biorsorbents can be used to pack minicolumns for the preconcentration of trace elements and thus improve the detection limits of some techniques. A biosorbent is efficient when presents binding sites as carbonyls, amines, and carboxylic groups, among others. Thus, natural materials as the sisal fiber (Agave sisalana) may be a good candidate. Sisal fiber demonstrated good performance for Cu preconcentration when it was impregnated with alizarine fluorine blue (AFB). However, very good results were reported for the first time by our group with this column, without the use of additional reagents for both, Mn and Cu determinations in water samples by using microwave plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (MP AES). In this paper a comparison of the sisal fiber preparation with and without impregnation with AFB is presented and discussed in terms of the figures of merit, including precision, trueness, limits of detection and quantification. In addition to that, the number of determinations without the need of replacement of the solid phase was evaluated. Results demonstrated that the impregnation of sisal fiber with AFB does not leads to an improvement in the analytical performance. Analytical Greenness Metric Approach (AGREE) was used to evaluate the greenness of both methods and results obtained were similar. Despite this, the method without impregnation of the fiber has some remarkable advantages, that contributes to Green Analytical Chemistry (GAC), related to the lifetime of the sorbent, not considered in the AGREE tool.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Materials science is a growing research area in Uruguay. In order to obtain a brief overview of the research done we collected information about research in this field. As a starting point, we searched in the Scopus database for the keywords: affiliation country: “Uruguay” and subject: “Materials Science” (using the “Timbó” platform). We inspected the records and we analyzed them to construct a timeline. The data show that we are in a steady state regime of number of publications that we expect to increase together with the number of students in the area, with the generation of long term policies (grants, funding opportunities), and, if we get involved in a community that promotes this area of interest.

EI óxido nitrico ("NO) es un mensajero biol6gico sumamente importante y versatil, involucrado en la neurotransmisi6n, el mantenimiento de la homeostasis vascular y en los mecanismos primarios de la defensa inmune. Es un radical libre producido in vivo por un grupo de enzimas lIamada Oxido Nitrico Sintasas (NOS). Los efectos del ·NO estan mediados por reacciones directas con hemoproteinas 0 mediante especies reactivas derivadas de reacciones del ·NO con oxigeno, super6xido y metales. La nitrosaci6n de tioles proteicos es una modificaci6n dependiente de ·NO que ha tomado un gran protagonismo ultimamente, ya que estarla implicada en mecanismos de serializaci6n celular. A pesar de haberse encontrado mas de 100 protefnas con cistefnas modificadas por S-nitrosaci6n, aun es necesario establecer cuales son los mecanismos par los que se forman y descomponen estos compuestos in vivo. Para esto es necesario contar con una tecnica de identificaci6n y caracterizaci6n de S-nitrosotioles (RSNO) eficiente. Se han desarrollado varios metod os para la cuantificaci6n y determinaci6n de RSNO de bajo peso molecular y proteicos, entre ellos encontramos el metodo de Saville, la quimioluminiscencia y el biotin switch. EI biotin switch es el metodo de referencia para la identificaci6n de proteinas S-nitrosadas, pero sufre de baja reproducibilidad en los resultados. Esta tecnica se basa en la reducci6n del RSNO con ascorbato, dejando los tioles libres para la uni6n con un reactivo biotinilado, marcando especificamente los tioles que se encontraban nitrosados. La eficiencia del ascorbato como agente reductor ha mostrado ser variable y dependiente de la muestra biol6gica a analizar, y se ha identificado como el punto debil de la tecnica de biotin switch. Por esta raz6n nos planteamos estudiar metodologias alternativas para la denitrosaci6n de RSNO. En este trabajo se ensay6 en primer lugar la capacidad de halogenuros, seudohalogenuros, y una variedad de organomercuriales, de denitrosar RSNO de bajo peso molecular (S-nitrosoglutati6n) y proteicos (S-nitrosoalbumina y S-nitrosotiorredoxina). Demostramos que el ioduro tiene una capacidad denitrosante significativa, destacandose dentro de los halogenuros ensayados. Por otro lado se via que los organomercuriales efectivamente reaccionan con RSNO, provocando la denitrosaci6n y uniendose a los tioles. En funci6n de los resultados obtenidos se evalua la utilidad de estos organomercuriales como potenciales herramientas para el desarrollo de una nueva tecnica de descomposici6n e identificaci6n especifica de S-nitrosotioles.

Echinoccocus granulosus is the causative agent of Cyst Echinococcosis, a zoonotic infection affecting humans and livestock representing a public health and an economic burden for several countries. Despite decades of investigation an effective vaccine still remains to be found. Parasitic cysteine-rich secretory proteins, antigen 5 and pathogenesis-related 1 proteins (CAPs) have been proposed as vaccine candidates against helmith's infection. In this work we have identified two novel proteins of this superfamily expressed at the protoescoleces larval stage named EgVAL1 and EgVAL2. The open reading frame sequences were deduced. The aminoacidic sequence was analyzed and confronted against already known vertebrate' and helminth's proteins sequences in order to infer putative functions. Immunolocalization studies were also performed. The obtained data supported by immunolocalization studies and homology models suggest that these proteins could be involved in protease activity inhibition.

Fasciola hepatica M17 leucine aminopeptidase (FhLAP) is thought to play a role in catabolizing peptides generated by the concerted activity of gut-associated endopeptidases on host polypeptides, thus releasing amino acids to be used in protein anabolism. In this study, a recombinant functional form of this homo hexameric metallopeptidase produced in Escherichia coli was used in combination with adjuvants of different types in a vaccination trial in Corriedale sheep against experimental challenge with F. hepatica metacercariae. The experimental assay consisted of 6 groups of 10 animals; 5 of the groups (1–5) were subcutaneously inoculated at weeks 0 and 4 with100 �g of rFhLAP mixed with Freund’s complete plus incomplete adjuvant (group 1), Alum (group 2), Adyuvac 50 (group 3), DEAE-D (group 4) and Ribi (group 5); the adjuvant control group (group 6) received Freund’s adjuvant. Two weeks after the booster, the sheep were orally challenged with 200 metacercariae. Immunization with rFhLAP induced significant reduction in fluke burdens in all vaccinated groups: 83.8% in the Freund’s group, 86.7% in the Alum group, 74.4% in the Adyuvac 50 group, 49.8% in the Ribi group and 49.5% in the DEAE-D group compared to the adjuvant control group. Morphometric analysis of recovered liver flukes showed no significant size modifications in the different vaccination groups. All vaccine preparations elicited specific IgG, IgG1 and IgG2 responses. This study shows that a liver fluke vaccine based on rFhLAP combined with different adjuvants significantly reduced worm burden in a ruminant species that was high in animals that received the enzyme along with the commercially approved adjuvants Alum and Adyuvac 50.
