The linear range was up to 25 mg L^-1P for phosphate, up to 1600 <span style="font-family: STIX, STI Extra, sans-serif;">&mu;</span>g L^-1N-NO₂for nitrite, and up to 2500 <span style="font-family: STIX, STI Extra, sans-serif;">&mu;</span>g L^-1N-NO₃for nitrite plus nitrate. The synthesis, labeling, and biological evaluation of a dextran derivative (DCM-30-iso) as potential radiopharmaceutical for sentinel lymph node imaging is presented. DCM-30-iso bears mannose as active moiety and isocyanide as ligand for technetium through the formation of a '4+1' Tc(III) mixed-ligand complex. A second derivative without mannose (DC-25-iso) was also prepared and evaluated as control. DCM-30-iso and DC-25-iso were synthesized from dextran in four steps (&gt;50% overall yield) and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Labeling with 99mTc was achieved by reaction with 2,2',2''-nitrilotris(ethanethiol) and 99mTc-EDTA. Radiochemical purity was above 90% and was stable for at least 4 hours postlabeling at 37&deg;C. The identity of the 99mTc complex was established through comparative HPLC studies using the well-characterized analogous Re-DC-25-iso complex. Biodistribution and imaging experiments of 99mTc-DCM-30-iso showed high uptake in the popliteal lymph node, which could be blocked with preinjection of mannose, and very low uptake in other nodes and organs. The nonmannosylated 99mTc-DC-25-iso derivative showed negligible uptake in all lymph nodes. The novel dextran-mannose derivative DCM-30-iso can be successfully labeled with 99mTc to give a well-characterized '4+1' complex with favorable biological properties as sentinel lymph node imaging agent. The single crystal X-ray diffraction study reveals that compounds 1 and 3 are neutral tetranuclear complexes. They feature a [2 &times; 2] grid distorted skeleton. Coordination sphere of Ln ions are completed by one chloro ligand and a solvent molecule. The design of white-light emitting materials for solid-state lighting technology is governed by the combination of independent red, green and blue emitting centers. Many mixed-lanthanide single phase white-light source materials have been produced so far by a careful trial and error combination of lanthanide ions during the synthetic procedure. In this work we propose a simple and efficient method for the direct preparation of the desired material with the optimal combination of metal ions, avoiding the trial and error multiple synthetic approach. In the proposed strategy, the emission profiles of the isostructural complexes of each lanthanide ion for a chosen excitation wavelength are compared relative to their ion density and the necessary final composition of the material is calculated in order to obtain the white-light CIE coordinates. Using this method, we prepared a white-light emitting material which is a metal-organic framework built from oxydiacetate ligand, lanthanide ions (Eu, Tb and Dy emitting red, green and blue respectively) and zinc (a closed shell metal ion that has proven to be ideal for optical applications). The compound [Dy1.60Eu0.38Tb0.02Zn3(oda)6(H2O)6]&middot;12H2O was prepared and fully characterized by single crystal x-ray diffraction, its optical properties were also measured. The proposed rational mixing of lanthanide ions could be useful for the preparation of white-light source materials in analogous systems, provided the single-lanthanide compounds are isostructural along the series and no optical interaction is operative among ions. Often referred to as the “king of cancers” pancreatic cancer is a serious threat to public health, as most cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Although tumor immunotherapy is a major advancement in cancer treatment, its effectiveness in pancreatic cancer remains limited, particularly owing to the unique characteristics of the tumor microenvironment. Nano-delivery systems offer a promising approach for overcoming the dense stromal barrier, which is crucial for enhancing the therapeutic efficacy. In this review, we systematically summarize key immunotherapeutic targets, including cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF), immune cells (tumor-associated macrophage (TAM), myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC), regulatory T cells (Treg), tumor-associated neutrophil (TAN), CD4+T, CD8+T cells), extracellular matrix (ECM), and discussed regulatory strategies in pancreatic cancer based on its pathogenesis and recent clinical advances to guide target selection. We then detail the physicochemical properties of nano-delivery systems suitable for pancreatic cancer and outline how tumor microenvironment-responsive linkers can enable particle size or charge conversion. Furthermore, we review the latest research progress on various nano-delivery systems (Lipid-based nanoparticle, Hydrogel/microneedle, Inorganic nanoparticle, Cancer vaccine, Adoptive cell therapy, Exosome/vesicle, Bacteria/virus) to inform the design of pancreatic cancer nanocarriers. Finally, we discuss future directions and summarize the challenges in translating pancreatic cancer nano-delivery systems into clinical practice. In the search for new therapeutic tools against tuberculosis two novel iron complexes, [Fe(L&ndash;H)3], with 3- aminoquinoxaline-2-carbonitrile N1,N4-dioxide derivatives (L) as ligands, were synthesized, characterized by a combination of techniques, and in vitro evaluated. Results were compared with those previously reported for two analogous iron complexes of other ligands of the same family of quinoxaline derivatives. In addition, the complexes were studied by cyclic voltammetry and EPR spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammograms of the iron compounds showed several cathodic processes which were attributed to the reduction of the metal center (Fe(III)/Fe(II)) and the coordinated ligand. EPR signals were characteristic of magnetically isolated high-spin Fe(III) in a rhombic environment and arise from transitions between mS=&plusmn;1/2 (geff~9) or mS=&plusmn;3/2 (geff~4.3) states. M&ouml;ssbauer experiments showed hyperfine parameters that are typical of high-spin Fe(III) ions in a not too distorted environment. The novel complexes showed in vitro growth inhibitory activity on Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (ATCC 27294), together with very low unspecific cytotoxicity on eukaryotic cells (cultured murine cell line J774). Both complexes showed higher inhibitory effects on M. tuberculosis than the &ldquo;second-line&rdquo; therapeutic drugs. Development of new antimicrobial agents, capable of combating resistant and multidrug-resistant fungal and bacterial clinical strains, is necessary. This study presents the synthesis and antimicrobial screening of 42 2-substituted-1,4-benzenediols, being 10 novel compounds. In total, 23 compounds showed activity against fungi and/or bacteria. Benzenediol compounds 2, 5, 6, 8, 11, and 12 demonstrated broad spectrum antimicrobial actions, including resistant and multidrug-resistant species of dermatophytes (Trichophyton mentagrophytes), Candida spp. and the ESKAPE panel of bacteria. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of these compounds for fungi and bacterial strains ranged from 25 to 50 &micro;g/ml and 8&ndash;128 &micro;g/ml, respectively. The antifungal mechanism of action is related to the fungal cell wall of dermatophytes and membrane disruption to dermatophytes and yeasts, in the presence of compound 8. Specific structural changes, such as widespread thinning along the hyphae and yeast lysis, were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The effects of compound 8 on cell viability are dose-dependent; however they did not cause genotoxicity and mutagenicity in human leukocyte cells nor haemolysis. Moreover, the compounds were identified as nonirritant by the ex-vivo Hen&rsquo;s egg test-chorioallantoic membrane (HET-CAM). The furan-1,4-benzenediol compound 5 showed in vivo efficacy to combat S. aureus infection using embryonated chicken eggs. Therefore, the compounds 8, and 5 are promising as hits for the development of new antimicrobial drugs with reduced toxicity. M&eacute;todos. Se recolectaron muestras de heces de 58 canes, que fueron evaluadas utilizando la t&eacute;cnica coproELISA para detectar ant&iacute;genos secretorio/excretorio de E. granulosus. Mediante una encuesta se obtuvo informaci&oacute;n sobre las pr&aacute;cticas de alimentaci&oacute;n y el manejo de las mascotas. Resultados. El 13,8% (8/58) de canes fue positivo a E. granulosus. En 27,8% (5/18) de los hogares se encontr&oacute; al menos un animal positivo y se estim&oacute; que en las familias que ten&iacute;an m&aacute;s de cuatro canes las posibilidades de encontrar al menos uno positivo eran mayores. En todos los hogares con al menos un can positivo sus mascotas se alimentaban con v&iacute;sceras. El 94,4% (17) de los participantes no ten&iacute;a conocimiento de las formas de contagio de la equinococosis. Conclusiones. Los resultados muestran la presencia de hospederos definitivos en la zona urbana de Lima y subrayan la necesidad de aumentar la difusi&oacute;n de las pr&aacute;cticas para evitar la transmisi&oacute;n del parasito. ESA-10 is an embryonic antigen expressed by tumor cells. A method to detect the antigen in the blood based on alterations in the erythrocyte sedimentation rate that occur when antiserum to ESA-10 is bound to the antigen in blood was devised and used here to determine the sensitivity and predictive value of the test in patients with biopsy proven non-hematologic malignancies, and in normal control subjects. The test was positive in 22 of 24 cancer patients tested, and negative in 30 of 35 control subjects. Of the five positive control subjects, one female had recently given birth and was lactating. Another control subject was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, just months after having participated in this study. Therefore, this tumor marker test (Turtest�) had a sensitivity of 91.7% and a positive predictive value of 81.5% in patients with biopsy proven cancer, and a specificity and negative predictive value in control subjects of 88.2 and 93.8%, respectively, if the control subject who subsequently developed prostate cancer is removed from the control group. Therefore, this simple test has potential as a clinically useful tumor marker with sensitivity and specificity equal to or greater than other commercially available tumor markers and should be explored further in larger studies.
